Introduction
The State of Connecticut, Department of Transportation (CTDOT), is now accepting applications for a Storekeeper position within the Bureau of Finance and Administration, Office of Inventory Management.
Position Highlights
- Monday – Friday
- Full-time (40 hours per week)
- First shift (7:30 AM – 4:00 PM)

Inventory Management Unit – 670 Brook Street, Rocky Hill, CT - On‑site work environment
Incumbents will be responsible for performing a full range of various inventory management duties, both manual and clerical. Duties include receiving daily deliveries, issuing parts to repair and maintenance facilities, communicating with vendors, maintaining accurate inventory levels, purchasing, time entry, serving as a Class C operator for fuel station operations, and general housekeeping.
Examples of Duties- Receive and issue stock and maintain records of receipts, requisitions, and stock on hand
- Arrange stock in planned fashion, with due account taken of age, accessibility, safety, and security
- Clarify amount and condition of stock on hand and report discrepancies or need for replenishment
- Verify quantity and quality of incoming supplies against invoices, dray bills, bills of lading, and orders
- Maintain housekeeping and security of stores area
- Take required inventory of materials and supplies
- Receive gas station reports and make necessary corrections
- Keep mileage and maintenance records of vehicles in car pool
- Inspect material handling equipment, scales, gas pumps, and other allied storeroom equipment for accuracy and safety
- Code and inventory furniture and equipment
- Operate material handling equipment
- May perform purchasing functions for inventory item stock replenishment
- May drive motor vehicles as assigned
- May enter data into a computer
- Perform related duties as required
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of the methods of requisitioning, handling, storing, and issuing of materials and supplies
- Knowledge of safe and efficient warehousing practices including purchasing
- Interpersonal skills
- Oral and written communication skills
- Ability to keep accurate stock records and inventories
- Ability to utilize computer software
Two (2) years of experience in stock or warehouse work or closely related work that could reasonably be expected to provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed above.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience using Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word
- Experience with heavy‑duty truck parts, automotive parts, tractor parts, and snowplow parts
- Experience with warehouse and inventory control best practices
- Experience in forklift operation
- Experience in general housekeeping
- Experience in fuel station operations
- Experience providing verbal and written communication to a diverse population
- Experience completing assignments and projects independently
Incumbents in this class may be required by the appointing authority to possess and retain appropriate current licenses, permits, and/or certifications.
Emergency Duty RequirementIncumbents in this class must be willing to accept assignment to emergency duties, including snow and ice removal, whenever their services are required. Mandatory winter overtime occurs from November 1 through April 30 each year.
Physical RequirementsIncumbents in this class must have adequate physical strength, stamina, physical agility, visual and auditory acuity, and must maintain such physical fitness as to be able to perform the duties. A physical examination may be required.
Working ConditionsIncumbents in this class may be required to lift moderate to heavy weights; may be exposed to weather conditions and may be required to handle hazardous materials/chemicals.
