Job Title
Under the supervision of the Accountant II-Grants & Compliance, performs advanced paraprofessional accounting work in support of the Accounting Division. Performs specialized accounting duties including account reconciliations, journal entry preparation, grant administration support, accounts receivable support, audit workpaper preparation, financial record maintenance, and other accounting functions. Assists with maintaining accurate accounting records, preparing financial schedules, supporting grant compliance activities, and ensuring accounting transactions are processed in accordance with City policies and established accounting procedures.
Job RequirementsAssists with the administration of federal, state, and local grants by maintaining grant files and supporting documentation. Assists in preparing grant reimbursement requests and supporting schedules. Tracks grant expenditures and assists with monitoring grant budgets. Assists with maintaining grant documentation required for compliance and audit purposes. Assists with preparation of the Schedule of Expenditures of Federal and State Awards (SEFSA) supporting schedules.
Prepares journal entries and supporting documentation for review. Assists with month-end and year-end closing activities. Assists with maintaining accounting schedules and supporting documentation. Responds to auditor requests by gathering accounting records and supporting documentation. Assists with maintaining organized accounting files for audit purposes. Reviews accounting transactions for completeness and accuracy. Researches discrepancies and assists in resolving accounting issues. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
Associate degree in accounting. Five (5) years' experience in a related field of work. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Requirements
Knowledge of financial accounting and specialized accounting requirements for government entities. Knowledge of payroll laws, and federal/state/local grant regulations. Knowledge of Governmental Accounting Standards Board guidelines. Knowledge of the Governmental Accounting, Auditing, and Financial Reporting model. Knowledge of internal financial controls. Knowledge of grant administration accounting principles. Knowledge of computerized financial software. Knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Word and Excel at an advanced level.
Skill in analyzing complex financial problems and identifying solutions. Skill in preparing clear and accurate reports. Skill in establishing cooperative and productive working relationships.
