Job Description

Supervises:
May coordinate and direct the activities of teacher assistants.
Starting Date:
Immediately
Purpose:
To plan, organize and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.
- Management of Instructional Time: Prepare materials, supplies, and equipment for each lesson, start class quickly, maintain high student time‑on‑task.
- Management of Student Behavior: Establish rules and procedures for routine matters, verbal participation, movement, monitor behavior during all activities, stop inappropriate behavior promptly while maintaining dignity.
- Instructional Presentation: Begin each lesson with review, introduce objectives, speak fluently, present concepts, provide examples, assign tasks, ask questions, pace lesson, make smooth transitions, summarize main points.
- Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance: Set clear standards and deadlines, circulate to check performance, use oral, written, and other products to assess progress, pose questions clearly.
- Instructional Feedback: Provide feedback on in‑class and out‑of‑class work, affirm correct responses, give sustaining feedback after incorrect or no response.
- Facilitating Instruction: Maintain instructional plan aligned with school and system‑wide goals, use diagnostic data to develop objectives, keep accurate records, match resources to student needs.
- Interacting Within the Educational Environment: Treat all students fairly, interact effectively with students, co‑workers, parents, and community.
- Performing Non-Instructional Duties: Carry out non‑instructional duties as assigned, adhere to laws, policies, and regulations, pursue professional development.
Additional job functions:
Perform other related work as required.
Degree in education or a related field that qualifies for licensure as a teacher by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
Minimum Qualifications- Physical requirements:
Ability to use classroom tools, lift/carry/push/pull objects, light work level. - Data conception, interpersonal communication, language ability, intelligence, verbal and numerical aptitude, form/spatial aptitude, motor coordination, manual dexterity, color discrimination, interpersonal temperament, physical communication (talk & hear, telephone) – ability to perform tasks listed in the description.
- Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Constantly monitor student safety, motivate students, maintain a clean and orderly environment, perform clerical duties, maintain order and discipline, operate office machines, maintain files and records, understand and follow instructions, establish effective working relationships.
