Job Description

Media Coordinator – responsible for leading and directing the implementation of a school library media program that serves as an integral part of a student-centered educational process.

Essential Duties:

  • Asses learning and information needs of students and staff; plan and collaborate with teachers; instruct in effective use of information; incorporate information literacy into instruction; advocate reading and lifelong learning.
  • Lead the use of instructional technology to enhance learning and continuously upgrade professional knowledge.
  • Provide flexible access to library media resources; create and maintain a conducive learning environment; encourage use of print and electronic resources; collaborate with teachers, technology staff, and students to select and evaluate resources.
  • Maintain accurate inventories of print, non‑print, and technology materials and equipment; collaborate with other libraries and agencies; implement a continual collection‑development process; adhere to copyright and confidentiality guidelines; advocate intellectual freedom.
  • Plan and implement curriculum and service plans; evaluate program quality; organize library resources to support the mission; lead budgeting processes; manage the Media and Technology Advisory Committee; interact with community; demonstrate integrity; prepare and submit reports; perform non‑instructional duties; adhere to policies.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Language:
    Read, analyze, and interpret professional literature; effectively present information to groups, parents, and the public.
  • Mathematical:
    Budgeting, student accounting, personnel and technology calculations.
  • Reasoning:
    Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Other:
    Awareness of current issues and trends in special education; ability to build relationships; clear oral and written communication; awareness of district and Board policies.
Physical Demands
  • Regular sitting, walking, using fingers, lifting up to 50 lbs.
Required

Education and Experience
  • Master’s degree in library science.
  • Classroom experience preferred.
  • Effective communication skills orally and in writing; basic math, science, world affairs, and educational technology skills.
  • Social skills to communicate with all school publics.
Evaluation

Performance evaluated regularly by supervisor in accordance with Board policy.
