Registered Nurse – Obstetrics & Gynecology

Full Time ROCKY MOUNT, NC, US

Salary Range: $65,000.00 To $85,000.00 Annually

Position Purpose

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides professional nursing care and clinical support to patients receiving Obstetrics and Gynecology (OBGYN) services. The RN works collaboratively with OBGYN providers and the interdisciplinary healthcare team to provide safe, compassionate, patient-centered care throughout the continuum of women’s health services. Responsibilities include patient assessment, clinical triage, care coordination, patient education, medication administration, and assisting with procedures while maintaining compliance with applicable clinical, regulatory, and organizational standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to patients in the OBGYN setting in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Obtain and document patient medical histories, vital signs, medications, allergies, and other relevant clinical information.
  • Perform nursing assessments and identify changes in patient condition requiring provider intervention.
  • Provide telephone and in-person clinical triage and determine the appropriate level and urgency of care.
  • Assist the OBGYN provider with examinations, procedures, treatments, and other clinical services.
  • Prepare patients for gynecological, prenatal, postpartum, and other OBGYN-related procedures.
  • Administer medications, injections, vaccines, and treatments as ordered and within the scope of practice.
  • Assist with specimen collection, laboratory testing, and appropriate follow-up of results.
  • Provide patient education regarding prenatal care, postpartum care, contraception, medications, preventive health, reproductive health, and treatment plans.
  • Support care management and coordination for patients requiring referrals, follow-up appointments, diagnostic testing, or specialty services.
  • Monitor and follow up on abnormal laboratory and diagnostic results as directed by the provider.
  • Assist with prenatal and postpartum patient care and provide education related to pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum recovery.
  • Support patients receiving contraceptive counseling and reproductive health services.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and complete documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  • Communicate effectively with providers, medical assistants, laboratory staff, referral personnel, and other members of the care team.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and all applicable federal, state, and organizational requirements.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, patient safety activities, and performance improvement programs.
  • Maintain knowledge of current nursing practices, OBGYN standards of care, and applicable regulations.
  • Assist with maintaining adequate clinical supplies, equipment, and an organized, safe patient care environment.
  • Respond appropriately to urgent and emergent patient needs within the scope of practice.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Licensure/Certification

  • Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of North Carolina.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Additional certifications related to women’s health, obstetrics, or ambulatory care are preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of 1 year of professional nursing experience preferred.
  • Previous experience working with an OBGYN provider, women's health, prenatal, postpartum, or reproductive health patients preferred.
  • Experience in ambulatory care, primary care, FQHC, or community health setting preferred.
  • Experience with electronic medical records (EMR), preferably EPIC, preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of professional nursing principles, practices, and standards.
  • Knowledge of women's health, reproductive health, prenatal, and postpartum care.
