Overview
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Under the supervision from the Healthy Living Director, the Gym Monitor is responsible for the safety and security of the members, participants and staff with the ability to interact and communicate effectively and clearly with teens, young and older adults.
Must have the ability to analyze situations quickly and take decisive action. The Gym Monitor is responsible for providing exceptional customer service and shall act as a relationship builder with all members, staff, and guests.
- Ensure the safety of all gymnasium participants.
- Responsible for communicating the Y mission and converting program participants to Y members.
- Able to implement sports and recreation programming for youth and adults.
- Responsible for supervising existing programs to ensure member safety and satisfaction.
- Respond to incidents and Perform routine First Aid and CPR. Ensure appropriate documentation is filled out.
- Ensure all rules and policies are adhered to, and proper actions are taken if rules are not followed.
- Enforce gymnasium rules including, but not limited to, promoting good sportsmanship, monitoring attire and language, monitoring that all participants are at least 12 years and up if not supervised by an adult 18 years or older, and clearly communicating that dunking, hanging on rims and grabbing nets is not permitted.
- Maintains and cleans basketball equipment and gymnasium Report to the director if equipment needs to be repaired or replaced.
- Raise and lower basketball hoops as requested.
- Ability to consistently work scheduled shifts, find substitutes in the event of absence, attend staff meetings and training, maintain certifications, and clock in/out of department correctly.
- Follows YMCA policies and procedures;
Maintain professional appearance. Wear staff shirts only when on the No cellphone/music device usage. - Follow systems, practices, and training related to risk management and safety.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the director.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Certifications required within 30 days of hire:
American Red Cross CPR/AED and First Aid; the following training provided by the Y:
Appropriate Touch;
Medicare Fraud, Waste, and Abuse;
Child Sexual Abuse Prevention;
Managing your Risk of Exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens;
Hazard Communication for Employees;
Social Media & Digital Communications;
Safe Lifting;
Harassment Prevention;
Preventing Member and Guest Slips, Trips, and Falls;
Risk Management 101. - Ability to and at least one year of experience developing a positive, authentic relationship with people from different backgrounds.
