Summary:

The Maintenance Mechanic – Painter applies coats of paint, varnish, enamels or lacquer to decorate and protect interior and exterior surfaces, trimmings and fixtures of the hospital, using paintbrushes, rollers, and scrapers. The Maintenance Mechanic – Painter performs installation, inspection, testing, preventive maintenance, and minor repairs on plumbing, electrical, boiler, fire detection, mechanical and HVAC systems. In addition, performs basic carpentry and general maintenance activities on the building and on equipment.

Responsibilities:

1. Performs skilled work of a Painter to include smooth surfaces, using sandpaper, wire brushes, or steel wool and removes old paint from surfaces using paint remover, scrapers, and wire brushes to prepare surfaces for painting. Fills nail holes, cracks and joints with putty, plaster, or other fillers. Select premixed paints or prepares paint to match specified colors by blending and mixing required proportions of pigment, oil, and thinning and drying substances.

Paints surfaces, using brushes, spray gun, or paint-roller. Simulates wood grain, marble, birch, or tile effects. Create special effects by applying paint with cloth, brush, sponge, or fingers. Rigs staging or erects scaffolding. Spreads cloth or canvas over floors and furniture to protect them from spattered paint. May perform any or all of the following:
Utilize stencils for lettering or decorations; paint signs on such surfaces as cloth, bulletin boards, walls, doors, windows and equipment; replace door and window glass; paper walls and ceilings; whitewash and calcimine surfaces; do freehand glaze finishes; refinish furniture and fixtures.

2. Corrective Maintenance
- Upon notice from the department's Work Control Center or upon request from the end user the employee will perform work necessary to correct damaged equipment or a facility component. This work is performed within 24 hours. Selected examples are ice machine repair, dripping faucet repair and light bulb replacement.

3. Emergency Maintenance
- Upon notice from Departmental Work Control Center or directly from customer this employee will respond within time frame set by departmental policy and perform or summon the appropriate trade to perform work necessary to prevent harm or injury to patients, visitors or staff or work to prevent extensive damage to equipment or to the facility. Selected examples are power outages, plumbing outages, door and hardware problems.

4. Other Duties as Assigned
- Including but not limited to exterior maintenance, cleaning mechanical rooms, landscaping work, transporting equipment for repair and other duties as needed.

5. Scheduled Maintenance
-Using the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) printout, the employee will use the priorities established on the list and perform the tasks necessary to keep the equipment, device or condition being serviced in good working order. Selected examples include preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance on generators and vehicles, repair and routine maintenance on signage and hardware.

6. Service Request Maintenance
- Upon notice from the Plant Engineering Work Control System the employee will perform work requested by end users that is not of an emergency nature. These activities are prioritized and scheduled by Work Control with consideration of available resources. Selected examples include installation of bulletin boards and installing cabinets or shelving.

· High school graduate or GED.

License/Certifications Requirements:

· None

Professional Experience Requirements:

· 1 year of experience as a painter or 1-3 years as a painter-helper.

· Experience painting in a healthcare or commercial setting is preferred.
