Requirements

Job Summary:

The Journeyman Electrician plays a critical role in the installation, maintenance, and commissioning of electrical systems on substations and utility-scale solar EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) projects. This position requires technical expertise, adherence to safety and compliance standards, and the ability to work collaboratively with project teams to deliver high-quality renewable energy solutions.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This role does not have formal management authority but is responsible for supervising, training, and mentoring assigned Apprentice Electricians and laborers. The Journeyman ensures that all tasks performed by apprentices meet quality and safety standards and provides daily direction under the guidance of the Substation Foreman or Superintendent.

What You’ll Do
  • Install, assemble, test, and maintain electrical wiring, conduit, equipment, and fixtures in accordance with project specifications, NEC, and local/state codes.
  • Perform electrical terminations, grounding, and testing for substation equipment, including panels, breakers, equipment cabinet enclosures, switch gear, and other balance-of-system components.
  • Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, blueprints, and one-line diagrams.
  • Troubleshoot electrical issues and ensure corrective actions are taken promptly.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety procedures, lockout/tagout, and PPE requirements; actively participate in jobsite safety meetings.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of work performed, inspections, and material usage.
  • Assist with commissioning activities and final inspections with AHJs (Authorities Having Jurisdiction).
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, and heavy equipment safely and responsibly.
  • Provide daily task directions to Apprentice Electricians and laborers, assigning work and reviewing completed tasks for quality and compliance.
