The Virtual Design Coordinator (VDC) Lead is responsible for supporting the planning, coordination, and execution of commercial mechanical and plumbing construction projects through advanced design and coordination technology. This position works closely with project managers, shop leadership, field personnel, and operations teams to assist with project coordination from design through fabrication and installation.
Key Responsibilities- Create and edit construction drawings utilizing CADmep and Navisworks
- Coordinate mechanical and plumbing systems with electrical, fire protection, and building systems
- Support prefabrication teams and coordinate project timelines
- Identify and resolve design and coordination issues during construction
- Participate in coordination meetings with internal and external stakeholders
- Assist with project execution from design through installation
- Support fabrication and field construction workflows
- Maintain accurate project documentation and database records
- Classify and organize drawings and project files
- Maintain strong communication and collaboration across project teams
- Perform additional duties as assigned
- Experience with in a mechanical contractor VDC department OR Journeyman Plumber License with field experience
- Strong understanding of mechanical and plumbing systems
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and construction specifications
- Experience with Autodesk AEC Collection, Navisworks Manage, Autodesk Fabrication, and Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills
- Ability to work effectively within a collaborative team environment
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
- Experience as an MEPF coordinator or designer
- CADmep and Navisworks experience
- Understanding of building automation systems and MEPF coordination
- Knowledge of safety regulations and applicable construction codes
- Construction Document Technologist (CDT) certification is a plus
- Journeyman Electrician or Plumber License
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Computer-Aided Drafting or related field
