Come join us! As a result of internal growth at SFMH, we are hiring a Permanent Part‑Time Physiotherapist with our Medical Unit.

Pay Grid: $38.83 - $54.77 /hour

Under the supervision of the VP, the staff physiotherapist will identify and improve patient movement and function with physical difficulties resulting from illness, injury, disability or ageing. The position is designed to promote patients' health and wellbeing and assist the rehabilitation process by developing and restoring body systems, in particular the neuromuscular, musculoskeletal, cardiovascular and respiratory systems. Key responsibilities include the development and review of treatment programs, comprising manual therapy, movement therapy, therapeutic exercise and the application of technological equipment.

Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Receives patient referral and schedules appointments according to acuity of condition.
  • Responsible for the delivery of physio therapeutic care provided to clients with a wide variety of possible conditions, such as injuries and fractures (including sports injuries), orthopaedics and joints, strokes, post surgical rehabilitation, intensive care or terminal illness, abdominal conditions, obstetrics and gynaecology, chest conditions, posture and movement, neurological conditions, learning difficulties and mental illness.
  • Treatment techniques involving the encouragement of exercise and movement by the use of manual and mechanical techniques, such as therapeutic movement and exercise therapy, massage, manipulation and electro and/or hydrotherapy.
  • Use effective interpersonal skills to communicate complex and sensitive information with patients who may be vulnerable and at risk, and using those skills with families and colleagues.
  • Work with patients to identify the physical problems to develop and review treatment programs.
  • Educate patients about how to prevent and/or improve conditions and advise on recuperative activities.
  • Assess, prescribe and monitor assistive devices for mobility.
  • Advise and support staff in assessing and managing complex manual handling problems.
  • Act as a resource and support to hospice staff and community professionals by offering specialist knowledge and skills in physiotherapy, meeting and understanding the psychosocial, physical, emotional and spiritual needs of patients.
  • Maintain audit and quality monitoring systems to ensure effective care delivery and monitor activity and service levels, to enable proper assessment of services in relation to best practice and cost effectiveness.
  • Writing patient case notes, reports and administrative statistics.
  • Keep up to date with new techniques and technologies available for treating patients.
  • Liaison with other healthcare personnel to supply and receive relevant information about the background and progress of patients, as well as referring patients who require other specific medical attention.
  • Responsible for the physiotherapy equipment, ensuring that safety is maintained.
  • Supervising physiotherapy assistants and other direct support staff.
  • Uphold the rules of conduct according to College of Physiotherapists of Ontario.

Qualifications:

  • Current registration with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario.
  • Demonstrated skills in the practice of evidence‑based physiotherapy with the application of appropriate outcome measures and the ability to work independently are required.
