Job Summary: To provide continuity of care radiopharmaceutical patients, while practicing within the professional boundaries established by the Arkansas State Board of Nursing.

Duties / Responsibilities:

• Provide patient care and infusion services to oncology patients in radiopharmaceutical procedures.
• Performs an assessment of all assigned patients, prior to therapy as well as an ongoing assessment during treatment.
• Ability to make independent nursing judgments, which includes triaging patient issues, symptom management, and emergency management. Will take appropriate action when needed in response to triaging patient issues, symptom/emergency management, while collaborating with the physician or APP as needed.
• Coordinate patient care activities with Social Worker and other departments
• Provide and maintain patient confidentiality and maintain confidentiality regarding clinic matters.
• Adheres to clinic standards, policies, and procedures, as well as being cost effective.
• Maintains high standard of professional performance, behavior, and appearance. As well as functions as a professional role model to co-workers and students.
• Maintains responsibility for own professional development through active participation in in-services and/or continuing education programs.
• Attends bi-monthly nursing meetings or reads the minutes when unable to attend.
• Collaboration and communication with multiple departments for organization and navigation of patient care needs.
• Assist with all areas of the radiopharmaceutical procedures including referrals, intake, obtaining outside medical records, preauthorization, scheduling, and education.
• Complete calls to patients as necessary for scheduling or education with proper documentation.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Possess extensive knowledge of chemotherapy, biotherapy, and immunotherapy, which includes administration details, side effects, and can instruct/educate patients and families in these areas.
• Ability to make independent nursing judgments, which includes triaging patient issues, symptom management, and emergency management.
• Knowledgeable about venous access devices.
• Knowledgeable about lab results and diagnostic findings and can educate patients when needed.
• Competent in the use of the EMR and patient documentation.
• Can communicate and delegate tasks to other members of the healthcare team in an appropriate and professional manner.
• Acts with skill during stressful or in emergency situations.
• This position requires the employee to possess a combination of nursing skills, physical endurance, mental alertness, and knowledge, as well as the ability to get along with others.

Certifications/Licenses/Education/or Experience in a related field:

• Graduate of accredited school of nursing.
• Possess a valid and current Arkansas state license.
• Successful completion of BLS required.
• Successful completion of ACLS required or must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
• Basic cardiac rhythm identification required for APP Acute Care Nurse and Procedure Nurses.
• ONS Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy certification required within 4 months of employment, then every two-year renewal for Infusion Nurses.
• Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) encouraged.
• Radiopharmaceutical Nurses will receive initial and ongoing training from the Research Department and study sponsors as necessary.
• Radiopharmaceutical Nurses will receive specialized training in the administration and safety of radiopharmaceuticals and additional training specific to procedure guidelines.
