Medical Laboratory Scientist , II, III

• Process, evaluate, and perform laboratory tests to identify microorganisms or antigens according to written procedures
• Perform susceptibilities and record/evaluate daily, weekly, and monthly quality control
• Perform HLA typing by rSSO and next-generation sequencing, Luminex-based HLA antibody identification, and donor/recipient flow cytometric cross-matching
• Analyze and interpret complex medical laboratory test results, troubleshoot issues, and ensure accuracy and quality control
• Maintain, calibrate, and perform function checks on analyzers, laboratory equipment, automation equipment, and instrumentation
• Identify instrument malfunctions and coordinate repairs with service representatives
• Conduct inventory counts, restock supplies, report ordering needs, and store supplies according to regulations
• Coordinate acquisition, testing, and reporting of patient test results with staff from various departments
• Assist with new test implementation, quality assurance studies, research support, and verification/validation of equipment or methods
• Complete validation and verification of new instrumentation and testing
• Lead training for employees, students, and residents and perform competency assessments
• Serve as a resource to other technologists in the Microbiology Laboratory
• Maintain quality control and quality assurance, assess acceptability, and take corrective action
• Prepare patient test results for Supervisor and/or Medical Director review
• Oversee laboratory operations, staffing, purchasing, regulatory compliance, inspections, project schedules, and assigned staff for MLS III duties

• MLS I:
  Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Sciences OR an approved ASCP discipline with 30 semester hours in biology and chemistry
• MLS I: ASCP or another accrediting agency certified or eligible; certification must be obtained within one year of employment
• MLS II:
  Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory science
• MLS II: 2 years of experience in a clinical laboratory
• MLS II: CHT (ABHI) certification within 1 year of eligibility, or within 1 year of hire if eligible at hire
• MLS II:
  Ability to identify and report abnormal test results and communicate with reviewing Pathologists and submitting clinicians
• MLS II:
  Ability to work independently, multitask, make subjective decisions, and communicate effectively orally and in writing
• MLS III:
  Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology/Medical Laboratory Scientist or Bachelor of Science or higher degree with sufficient biology and chemistry credits in an ASCP-approved discipline
• MLS III: 3 years of clinical laboratory experience
• MLS III: ASCP or equivalent Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist certification, or grandfathered status before ASCP requirement
• MLS III:
  Cytogenetics (ASCP) certification within 24 months of hire for all staff, including BS/BA employees
• MLS III preferred: BSMT/BSMLS or Cytogenetics degree; 5 years of Cytogenetics experience; previous MLS(ASCP) and/or related specialty certification; CAP inspector experience
• Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment

Demonstrates expertise in laboratory testing, quality control, and regulatory compliance, with a strong focus on HLA typing, next-generation sequencing, and effective communication with clinical staff.
