Summary
This position is responsible for manufacturing, repairing, and providing input on the design of a variety of tools, dies, and specialized parts and devices used in machinery and production equipment. The work involves precise measurements and complex technical plans. The role requires the ability to set up and operate surface grinders, tool and cutter grinders, manual and CNC milling machines, lathes, saws, and other required equipment.
Self‑motivation, flexibility, and the ability to work without supervision are essential. The employee will help and support other Tool and Die Makers and Manufacturing Engineers as needed.
- Follow direction from the General Manager of the PBU or his designee.
- Read and interpret technical prints to gain a comprehensive understanding of the required parts.
- Help support and maintain 6S standards in the work area and others as needed.
- Use machine tools and welding equipment to manufacture and repair tools, dies, fixtures, and other equipment used in the production areas.
- Adhere to Environmental, Health & Safety rules when operating machinery and to ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and OHSAS 18801 certification requirements.
- Program and run CNC mills and lathes as required; set up and run manual mills and lathes.
- Measure finished parts with micrometers, calipers, and gauges to ensure specifications are met.
- Perform regular maintenance of machine tools to ensure optimal performance and inspect finished products for defects.
- Work closely with engineers and other production staff to ensure that tools and dies meet manufacturing process needs.
- Perform other job‑related duties as directed.
- Technical or vocational certification in Tool and Die, Manufacturing Technology, machining, or a related field.
- Proficiency with computer‑aided manufacturing (CAM) software.
- Four (4) years of experience as a Tool and Die Maker.
- Good working knowledge of standard shop mathematics, metal‑cutting feeds and speeds, threading terminology, and calculating angles for setting sine bars.
- Understanding of grinding principles and procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret technical prints, sketches, design models, and verbal descriptions for operational sequencing.
- Strong manual dexterity and ability to use hand tools.
- Knowledge of metal and other material properties.
- Experience with precision measurement tools.
- Experience with Electrical Discharge Machining (desired).
Physical Requirements
- Typical office/factory environment with possible exposure to heat in production areas.
- Must lift 50lbs safely and perform repetitive motions such as walking, reaching, bending, twisting, stooping, pushing, pulling, and standing for extended periods.
- Clear vision and focus on fast and repetitive operations for extended periods.
- Exposure to machine noise (hearing protection required), sparks, chips, and dust (eye protection required).
- Exposure to heavy equipment, moving parts, and safety‑toed shoes required.
