Job Summary
The ICU Registered Nurse provides specialized nursing care in a 9-bed Intensive Care Unit with a patient‑to‑nurse ratio typically of 2:1, adjusting to 1:1 when indicated. This role involves caring for adult ICU patients and occasionally stable pediatric patients, ensuring high standards of critical care. The nurse collaborates with the healthcare team to deliver safe, effective, and compassionate care while potentially supporting other departments as needed.
Charge nurse duties may be assigned with additional compensation. PALS certification and pediatric experience are required.
- Provide direct nursing care to critically ill adult and stable pediatric patients in the ICU.
- Maintain patient-to-nurse ratios of 2:1, with adjustments to 1:1 as needed for patient acuity.
- Administer medications, monitor vital signs, and perform clinical assessments.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Assume charge nurse responsibilities when assigned, overseeing unit operations and staff coordination.
- Float to other hospital departments as needed to support patient care without managing a full patient team.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
- Active Registered Nurse license in the state of practice.
- Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
- Experience working in an ICU setting, including pediatric patient care.
- Strong clinical assessment and critical care skills.
- Ability to manage multiple patients and prioritize care effectively.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Charge nurse experience or leadership skills.
- Additional certifications relevant to critical care nursing.
- Experience with med/surg patient care overflow situations.
- 12-hour shifts, either day or night.
- Schedule consists of 72 hours every two weeks.
- Minimum of three nurses per shift in the ICU.
- Potential for med/surg overflow patients increasing patient assignment ratio.
- Must be prepared to float to other departments as needed without taking a full patient load.
- 12-hour shifts with options for day or night shifts.
- Work schedule totals 72 hours over a two-week period.
