As an Emergency Department Registered Nurse at Mercy, you will deliver high-quality, compassionate care to patients experiencing urgent and life-threatening conditions. In our fast-paced ED, you’ll perform rapid assessments, prioritize care, administer medications, and coordinate treatments with an interdisciplinary team. You’ll use advanced technology and evidence-based protocols to stabilize patients while supporting families with clear communication. Responsibilities- Provide rapid assessment, triage, and evidence-based emergency nursing care to diverse patient populations.
- Administer medications, treatments, and interventions per provider orders and clinical protocols.
- Monitor patient status, recognize deterioration, and initiate appropriate emergency responses.
- Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement care plans.
- Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately in the EHR.
- Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatments, and discharge instructions.
- Maintain infection control, safety, and quality standards in the Emergency Department.
- Precept, mentor, and support nursing colleagues and new staff members.
- Participate in continuous improvement, clinical education, and unit-based initiatives.

- Emergency nursing care
- Triage and patient assessment
- IV insertion and medication administration
- Cardiac rhythm interpretation
- Wound care and suturing assistance
- Operation of emergency equipment (defibrillators, vents)
- Electronic Health Records (EHR) documentation
- ACLS protocols
- PALS or TNCC protocols
- Infection prevention and control

- Active, unrestricted RN license in state of practice
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) and/or TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) preferred
- CEN (Certified Emergency Nurse) preferred
- Previous Emergency Department or critical care experience preferred
