Summary

The Concrete Finisher will be responsible for finishing, smoothing, and shaping concrete surfaces on commercial construction projects. The ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience working with various concrete finishing tools, working closely with formwork and labor teams to ensure a high‑quality, durable, and visually appealing finished product.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Concrete Placing & Finishing:
    Strike off, place, and finish concrete using hand tools (trowels, floats, etc.) or power tools (motorized screeds, grinders, etc.).
  • Surface Preparation:
    Prepare and level concrete surfaces, ensuring proper thickness, texture, and alignment before curing.
  • Detailing & Shaping:
    Apply various finishing techniques, such as smoothing, texturing, and stamping, to meet project specifications and aesthetic requirements.
  • Formwork Coordination:
    Work with carpenters and laborers to ensure the correct installation and removal of formwork, checking for alignment and measurements.
  • Concrete Curing:
    Monitor the curing process, including the application of curing compounds and ensuring proper drying conditions to prevent cracks or defects.
  • Quality Control:
    Inspect finished surfaces to ensure they meet the company’s high standards for quality, durability, and visual appeal.
  • Collaboration:

    Communicate with project managers, carpenters, and other trades to ensure deadlines are met and work is completed in compliance with blueprints and specifications.
  • Cleanup:
    Maintain a clean and organized work area, including tools and equipment, to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Safety Compliance:
    Follow all safety protocols and guidelines, using personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensuring proper handling of concrete materials.
Education / Skill Requirements
  • Experience:

    Minimum 2–3 years of experience in concrete finishing, with a focus on commercial construction projects.
  • Skills:
    • Proficient in using concrete finishing tools, including trowels, floats, edgers, and power screeds.
    • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings.
    • Strong knowledge of concrete properties, curing methods, and techniques for achieving smooth, durable surfaces.
    • Familiarity with various finishing techniques such as brooming, stamping, polishing, and exposing aggregate.
  • Certifications:
    • OSHA 10‑Hour or 30‑Hour Construction Safety Certification preferred.
    • First Aid/CPR certification is a plus.
  • Work Ethic:
    Excellent attention to detail, ability to work independently, and a strong team player.
  • Communication:
    Ability to effectively communicate with team members and supervisors.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. regularly and up to 75 lbs. occasionally.
  • Ability to stand, kneel, squat, bend, and walk for long periods.
  • Capable of working in outdoor environments, often exposed to various weather conditions.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights, as needed.
  • Manual dexterity to operate hand tools, power tools, and machinery safely.
  • Ability to perform repetitive physical tasks and handle heavy lifting.
