Position: Maintenance Operator I-III

Job Summary

Under general supervision, the incumbent will be responsible for maintaining a good working knowledge of the various power plant technical systems. This includes performing complex instrumentation, electrical, and mechanical work involved in the inspection, troubleshooting, repair, installation, testing, adjustment, and calibration of instrumentation and electrical equipment such as meters, automatic combustion control equipment, and regulating devices.

Job Duties / Responsibilities
  • Investigate, identify, maintain, and repair power plant equipment. Perform lockout/tagout following the Fossil Tagging Procedure.
  • Use mechanical measuring devices, instruments, controls, regulating devices, and electrical equipment typical of power plants.
  • Be familiar with the operation and function of steam boilers, turbo generators, pumps, heaters, steam traps, piping systems, pressure and level regulators, electrical distribution systems, and balance‑of‑plant systems.
  • Comply with all Fossil safety procedures and policies.
  • Step up to temporary supervisor or contract administrator position, supervising other employees or contractors.
  • Work overtime as required and operate under unusual or normal power‑plant conditions.
  • Apply elementary mechanical measuring principles to troubleshoot and repair plant equipment, including preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Perform water chemistry analysis on boiler makeup water; adjust chemicals and blow‑down rates; coordinate with operations and vendors to monitor the chemistry program.
  • Install new control‑system equipment as required; use electrical and control‑system test equipment appropriately.
Education

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.

Desired education:
Graduation from an accredited instrument technician program or possession of a journeyman electrician license.

Experience

Minimum five years of power‑plant operations and/or maintenance experience.

Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Diagnosis and repair of instrument and control system malfunctions including transmitters, gauges, switches, control valves, pneumatic actuators, PLCs, plant or distributive control systems, instrument loops, flow meters, pressure and temperature probes, level probes, current, voltage and watt meters, digital recorders, and computers.
  • Installation of instrumentation tubing (bending, cutting, Swagelok fittings), fiber‑optic troubleshooting, terminations, and splicing.
  • Understanding of electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, process and instrumentation diagrams, flow diagrams, and general layout drawings.
  • Diagnosis and repair of electrical systems such as breakers, motor starters, motors, switch gear, and motor control centers.
  • Installation of electrical systems including conduit bending/cutting, panel and junction box installation, terminal strips, and connection terminations.
  • Ability to lift 100 lb and carry 50 lb; climb scaffolds, stairs, and ladders.
  • Team orientation, self‑motivation, initiative to work independently, and timely concise communication.
  • Basic computer knowledge for using the Entergy Fossil Applications Time and Labor and AIMM maintenance management system.
Certifications & Licenses

Successful completion of the EEI POSS/MASS test.

Physical Requirements
  • Lift up to 100 lb and carry up to 50 lb.
  • Climb scaffolds, stairs, and ladders as required.
Working Conditions / Essential Functions

Employees may be required to work additional hours, in alternate locations, or perform additional duties in response to storms, outages, or emergencies. Exempt employees may not receive overtime pay for such duties.
