Job Title: Press Brake Operator - Class A

Department: Fabrication

Reports To: Press Brake Lead

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Summary:
Bending and fabricating of metal components and assemblies using various techniques. Operate press brake machines in a productive and safe manner to produce parts that meet DSI quality requirements at the lowest cost in a timely manner while minimizing waste of materials and resources. As a level A press brake operator, you will be given a higher level of responsibility to ensure products are completed in a timely and accurate fashion as well as an involvement with your team in a positive and productive manner.

Responsibilities and duties include:

• Mentor other fabrication helpers and operators within the department.

Ø Must approach all tasks and daily activities with a Can-Do attitude.

Ø May be asked to help instruct shop helpers and other individuals on various fabrication machines and techniques.

• Able to bend and create complex parts for jobs at a fast pace.

• Follow required procedures and use appropriate tooling to setup up each machine for the job as needed.

• Will be using a variety of machines within the fabrication department to include (but not limited to): press brake, shear, PEM and hand roller.

• Identify opportunities for improving press brake area and the overall fabrication area.

Ø Continuously look for and seek out any continuous improvements that may be made in the department.

• Accountability for following DSI's written quality procedures.

• Provide accurate inventory counts at all times and keep parts in identifiable and appropriate areas.

• Recognize problem processes and/or unsafe set-ups and recommend alternatives.

• Able to operate machines on various metals with little or no supervision.

• Perform basic maintenance of machines as required and keep supervisors informed of necessary maintenance beyond minimal operator ability.

• Deliver on customer expectations by performing quality checks on pieces per DSI's quality department standards.

• Must read and understand layouts, job packets and blueprints for parts being fabricated, even if it is a repeat job. This includes understanding of dimensions and tolerances of finished parts.

Ø Form all parts according to job packets and specifications.

Ø Verify any discrepancies and issues as they arise and report to fabrication manager or lead.

Ø Mark prints for any changes that would be required for production or repeat job in the future.

• Log into Epicor time system to accurately clock in and out of jobs.

• Other duties as assigned.

Education or Certifications:

• High School diploma or equivalent.

• Two-year degree in a trade school and five years in press brake/fabrication position. May be a combination of schooling and education.

Skills/Abilities/Competencies:

• Analyze plans, blueprints or drawings to determine work requirements, sequence of bend assignments and help others on the operation.

• Optimize fabrication processes to ensure daily goals and production is met.

• Take on additional tasks to help the team achieve desired goals with little or no supervision.

• The "go to person" for complex and difficult parts.

• Ability to perform a sequence of operations without supervision and consistently maintain the performance levels set for quality and quantity.

• Understanding of safety rules and regulations to prevent unsafe set-ups, operations, or acts which might cause injury to self, others, environment or equipment.

• Proactively engage in a working relationship with other members of the team.

• Ability to work through daily operational activities.

• Ability to plan effectively and execute the plans.

• Strong mechanical aptitude.

• Able to lift 25 pounds or more daily and over 25 pounds occasionally.

• Ability to push or pull over 25 pounds daily or over 25 pounds occasionally.

• Ability to make decisions with little or no guidance or supervision.

Communication skills both verbally and written.

Ø As the lead's backup, it is imperative in this position that communication with all employees is effective, positive and timely.

Ø When the lead is absent, there must be verbal communication with the fabrication shop manager throughout the day to ensure production, performance and deadlines are being met.

• Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills.

• Able to perform complicated bends on various metals.

Ø Metal include stainless steel, aluminum, cold steel etc.

• Strong knowledge of inspection procedures.

Ø Each press brake operator is responsible for checking all parts for quality.
