Registered Nurse RN Main

Mercy is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Main OR within our Healthcare & Medical Services department. As a vital member of our surgical team, you will provide high-quality perioperative nursing care to patients undergoing a wide range of surgical procedures. You will serve as a patient advocate before, during, and after surgery, ensuring safety, comfort, and exceptional clinical outcomes in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Working in Mercy’s Main OR, you will perform comprehensive preoperative assessments, verify consents, surgical sites, and required diagnostics, and collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and surgical technologists to plan and deliver safe, efficient care. During procedures, you will function as a circulating and, when appropriate, a scrub nurse, maintaining strict aseptic technique, monitoring patient status, managing equipment and supplies, administering medications as ordered, and documenting all aspects of care in the electronic health record.

Following surgery, you will coordinate handoffs to PACU and other units, provide detailed clinical reports, and participate in postoperative education for patients and families.

You will play an active role in infection prevention, surgical counts, and adherence to all regulatory, hospital, and departmental policies, including safety and quality initiatives. In collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, you will support continuous improvement efforts, contribute to evidence-based practice, and participate in unit-based projects that enhance patient outcomes and workflow efficiency. You will also respond promptly to emergencies in the OR, utilizing your critical thinking and ACLS-level skills to help stabilize patients.

The ideal candidate is a licensed Registered Nurse with prior perioperative or acute care experience, strong assessment and communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a high-acuity, high-volume surgical environment. Attention to detail, accountability for accurate documentation, comfort with technology and EHR systems, and a commitment to patient safety are essential. Candidates should be willing to work rotating shifts, take call, and cover evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed to support 24/7 surgical services.
