We are seeking a licensed Professional Engineer with deep expertise in California mechanical and plumbing code compliance who is passionate about delivering technically sound, constructible, and energy-efficient designs.
Position OverviewThe Mechanical & Plumbing Engineer will lead the design and coordination of HVAC and plumbing systems for complex projects throughout California. This role is ideal for an experienced PE who thrives in multidisciplinary environments, enjoys solving code and system challenges, and wants meaningful involvement from concept through construction.
You will serve as a technical leader, mentor junior staff, and interface directly with architects, owners, contractors, and authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs).
Responsibilities- Lead HVAC and plumbing system design for commercial, multifamily, mixed-use, and institutional projects
- Interpret and apply:
- California Mechanical Code (CMC)
- California Energy Code / Title 24
- ASHRAE and NFPA standards
- Prepare permit-ready construction documents, specifications, and engineering calculations
- Perform:
- HVAC load calculations
- Ventilation analysis
- Equipment selection
- Plumbing fixture calculations
- Pipe and duct sizing
- Coordinate with architects, structural, electrical, and civil disciplines
- Support plan check responses, permit coordination, and construction administration
- Review RFIs, submittals, and field conditions during construction
- Mentor junior engineers and designers
- Participate in client meetings and technical presentations
- Professional Engineer Mechanical (PE) license in California
- Active NCEES (or willingness to obtain) reciprocal licensing for applications in other states
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field
- 5+ years of mechanical/plumbing engineering experience
- Strong knowledge of California mechanical and plumbing codes
- Experience with Revit and AutoCAD
- Familiarity with commercial, multifamily, mixed-use, or institutional projects
- Strong communication and coordination
- LEED accreditation
- Experience with energy modeling or commissioning
- Experience using IESVE energy modeling software
- Familiarity with BIM coordination workflows
