Job Description
The incumbent will support research projects on development (e.g., using machine learning), advanced manufacturing (e.g., additive manufacturing), microstructural characterization (e.g., using electron microscopy and atom probe tomography), and testing (e.g., mechanical testing and oxidation testing) of advanced structural materials (including refractory alloys, oxide dispersion strengthened alloys, and environmental barrier coatings, among others), and significantly contribute to the success of these research programs.
The incumbent will also assist with training graduate students and help with writing research proposals.
- develop advanced alloys using machine learning
- manufacture refractory alloys, oxide dispersion strengthened alloys, and environmental barrier coatings, among others
- conduct microstructural characterization utilizing different techniques such as transmission electron microscopy and atom probe tomography
- perform mechanical testing
- carry out oxidation testing
- analyze experimental results
- prepare presentations and write research articles and reports
- interact with other researchers in the team
- assist with training graduate students
- help with writing research proposals
Hold a PhD degree or to obtain soon a PhD degree in materials science and engineering or a closely related discipline such as mechanical engineering.
Preferred Qualifications- Significant experience in micro-structural characterization using electron microscopy, in mechanical testing, and in advanced manufacturing
- Strong background in materials science and engineering especially in structural metallic materials
- Strong publication record
- Good proposal writing experience
