Position: Dam Safety Engineer - 5040106

Location

Missouri Geological Survey Office, 111 Fairgrounds Rd., Rolla. The position requires the ability to work outdoors for long hours in all seasons with occasional overnight travel.

Responsibilities
  • Complete dam safety inspections under guidance from a registered professional engineer.
  • Complete hydraulic and hydrology reviews under guidance from a registered professional engineer.
  • Complete geotechnical reviews under guidance from a registered professional engineer.
  • Schedule dam inspections and communicate with dam owners, the general public and consulting engineers.
  • Complete construction permit site visits to observe construction of a new or modified dam.
  • Prepare reports, charts and findings associated with program projects.
  • Complete dam height evaluations.
  • Act as a team player, performing duties as assigned to create a highly efficient work environment.
Qualifications
  • Geotechnical Engineering:
    Knowledge of concepts, principles, theories and methods for investigating and evaluating subsurface soil or geological conditions for the design of stable foundation systems, earthen structures, or remediation of subsurface conditions.
  • Hydraulic Engineering:
    Knowledge of concepts, principles, theories and methods for analyzing open-channel and pressure-flow fluid dynamics, estimating river stages and designing hydraulic structures, drainage structures, pipes, navigation facilities, reservoirs, locks and dams.
  • Interpersonal

    Skills:

    Shows understanding, friendliness, courtesy, tact, empathy and politeness. Develops and maintains effective relationships with people from varied backgrounds and in different situations. Is sensitive to cultural diversity, race, gender, disabilities and other individual differences.
Other Requirements
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
Equivalent Titles
  • Assistant Engineer – Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline from an ABET‑accredited program and 0–2 years relevant experience.
  • Associate Engineer – Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline from an ABET‑accredited program and 2–4 years of progressive relevant experience.
  • Professional Engineer – Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Missouri with at least four full years of satisfactory engineering experience, as required for licensure.
