General Summary
The Office RN assists the physician or mid-level provider by providing assessments, testing, treatment and education for patients in the practice. The role requires strong organization, professionalism, excellent customer service, attention to detail, multitasking and critical thinking in a fast-paced environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Follow hospital policies for patient safety measures, infection prevention, safe patient handling, critical lab notification, etc.
- Maintain central line care and prevent surgical site infections per policy.
- Administer medications (oral, IM, SC, topical, IV) as ordered and maintain optimal inventory.
- Assist provider with procedures, setting up instruments, supplies, and examinations within scope of practice.
- Perform phone triage, act as liaison between provider and patient, and follow up on test results.
- Document chief complaint, visit reason, patient care and medication lists accurately in the medical record.
- Maintain venous access devices (ports) and administer IV push medications and flushes.
- Escort patients to exam rooms and obtain weight and vital signs accurately.
- Educate patients on MyChart and help them sign up.
- Perform point-of-care lab testing and obtain specimens for lab orders, and provide patient teaching and supportive services.
- Train RN, LPN and MA staff in the clinic roles.
- Schedule diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and obtain pre-certification authorization from payers.
- Meet commitments, work independently, accept accountability, handle change, maintain professionalism and attendance/punctuality.
Graduate of an accredited RN program.
Work ExperiencePreferred nursing or other health-care experience, but not required.
Certification / License- Current RN license in Missouri or Compact state.
- Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association.
Physical Requirements
Require considerable mental concentration and the ability to lift up to 35 lbs. Must perform turning, walking, standing, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.
Working ConditionsExposure to infectious disease and communicable disease via blood and other body fluids; frequent exposure to hostile persons at times; minimal physical discomfort and physical workload.
