General SummaryThe Office RN assists the physician or mid‑level provider by providing assessments, treatment, testing, and education for the patients of the practice. Must be well organized, highly professional, have excellent customer‑service skills, be detail oriented, able to multitask efficiently, think critically and perform in a fast‑paced work environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Follow established hospital policies regarding patient safety measures such as infection prevention, safe patient handling and movement, critical lab notification, etc., to ensure patient care is provided in an optimally safe environment.
- Maintain and care for central lines and prevent surgical site infections per policy.
- Administer medications (oral, IM, SC, topical, and IV) as ordered.
- Assist the provider with procedures, setting up instruments and supplies.
- Assist with examination as requested within scope of practice.
- Perform phone triage, act as a general liaison between physician/APP and patient, call patients with normal/abnormal test results, answer questions and assist the physician with return calls.
- Document chief complaint/visit reason and details according to provider preference.
- Document patient care in the medical record completely and accurately.
- Initiate, review, and update patient’s medication and summary lists according to provider preference.
- Maintain optimum inventory of medications and supplies.
- Maintain venous access devices (ports) and administer IV push medications and flushes as ordered.
- Escort patients to exam room and obtain patient weight and vital signs accurately.
- Inform and set up patients and/or guardians for MyChart at the time of service and educate patients regarding the benefits of signing up for MyChart.
- Perform point‑of‑care lab testing and obtain blood samples and other specimens for lab testing as ordered.
- Provide patient teaching and supportive services as directed.
- Provide treatments as ordered.
- Train RN, LPN and MA in the clinic role.
- Schedule diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, obtain precertification authorization as required by payers and ordered by the provider.
- Meet commitments, work independently, accept accountability, handle change, set personal standards, stay focused under pressure, be a team player, and meet attendance/punctuality requirements.
Graduate of an accredited RN program required.
Work ExperienceNursing or other health‑care experience preferred but not required.
Certification/License- Current RN license in the state of Missouri or Compact state required.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification required.
Considerable mental concentration required. Lifting up to 35 lbs., turning activities and nearly constant walking required. Standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.
Working ConditionsFrequent exposure to infectious disease and hostile persons quent exposure to communicable disease via blood and other body fluids. Minimal physical discomfort.
