Position Summary – Roadway maintenance technology in Roma, TX. Operate heavy equipment such as front‑end loaders, backhoes, dump trucks, and more. Work outdoors with a team. Safety focus. No high school diploma required – experience on roadways, bridges, ditches is sufficient.

Salary & Compensation

Transportation Maint. Tech I (A16): $51,600.00 – $61,130.00 annually / $4,300.00 – $5,094.16 monthly

Transportation Maint. Tech II (A17): $55,200.00 – $64,469.00 annually / $4,600.00 – $5,372.41 monthly

Minimum Salary: $51,600.00

Maximum Salary: $64,469.00

Pay Basis: Yearly

FLSA Status: Nonexempt

Roma Area Engr/Maint Section, 2654 N. US 83, Roma, 78584.

Travel:
Yes, 10 % of the Time.

Shift: Mon – Fri, 8 am – 5 pm.

Responsibilities – Transportation Maintenance Tech I
  • Assists in identifying, repairing and installing signs, delineators, mailbox supports and posts; performs basic welding as needed; uses/moves equipment, tools, materials as required.
  • Assists local law enforcement at accident sites; assists stranded motorists as needed.
  • Assists with traffic control; places and gathers cones, warning signs and barricades; flags traffic.
  • Maintains highways and rights‑of‑way; performs roadway repairs; erects and repairs guard rails, highway markers and signs; hauls materials and equipment to job sites.
  • Moves litter and roadway debris.
  • Operates light equipment such as a front‑end loader (up to 1 ¼ cubic yard), pneumatic roller, rotary broom, spreader box, backhoe, street sweeper, mower.
  • Operates heavy equipment such as a motor grader, large excavator, heavy bulldozer, crane, herbicide truck, asphalt paving machine, asphalt distributor, milling machine.
  • Performs preventive maintenance inspections (PMI), routine servicing and minor repairs on equipment; completes reports including time‑keeping, equipment forms, inventory, accident forms, PMI.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Responsibilities – Transportation Maintenance Tech II
  • Inspects traffic control devices and placement at construction sites for compliance with specifications, traffic laws, and the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
  • Maintains highways and rights‑of‑way; performs highly skilled roadway repairs; erects and repairs guard rails, highway markers and signs; hauls materials and equipment to job sites.
  • Identifies, repairs, and installs signs, delineators, mailbox supports and posts; performs welding; uses/moves equipment, tools, materials.
  • Assists local law enforcement at accident sites; assists stranded motorists as needed.
  • Assists traffic control; places and gathers cones, warning signs and barricades; flags traffic.
  • Inspects barricades for compliance with standards.
  • Maintains picnic and rest areas, rights‑of‑way, maintenance yards and comfort stations.
  • Moves litter and roadway debris.
  • Operates heavy equipment such as front‑end loader (≥ 1 ½ cubic yard), tractor‑trailer haul truck, large dragline, shovel, paint stripper, dump truck.
  • Operates light equipment similar to Tech I.
  • Performs preventive maintenance inspections (PMI), routine servicing and minor repairs on equipment; completes reports.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: No degree required.
  • Experience: Tech I – No experience required. Tech II – 1 year experience in transportation engineering support, roadway maintenance, construction inspection, heavy equipment operation or related work. Experience may be satisfied by full‑time or prorated part‑time; technical training can substitute one year of experience per year.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Valid US driver’s license at time of application.
  • Commercial Class “A” Driver’s License required.
  • Must obtain the “N” endorsement within 30 days of employment.
