Position Title: Special Education Assistive Technology Specialist
Contract Work Year: 190 Days
Hours: 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with 30 minutes for lunch
Reports to: Director of Special Education
Purpose
The Assistive (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). supports students with disabilities by evaluating, recommending, implementing, and maintaining assistive technology tools and services to ensure equitable access to the curriculum and school environment. The AT Specialist collaborates with educators, related service providers, families, and administrators to integrate appropriate technology into the instructional setting in compliance with IDEA and Section 504.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
- Conduct AT evaluations using a team-based approach to determine appropriate tools and strategies to support students' IEP goals and access to the general curriculum.
- Collaborate with IEP/504 teams to recommend AT devices, software, and services, and assist in developing related IEP goals or accommodations.
- Provide direct and consultative services to students, educators, and families to facilitate the effective use of assistive technology.
- Train staff, students, and families on the use of AT devices, applications, and tools.
- Troubleshoot and maintain AT equipment, including software updates and device management.
- Support school-based teams in data collection and progress monitoring of AT effectiveness.
- Assist with the development and implementation of district-wide AT policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Maintain an inventory of AT devices and coordinate device distribution, tracking, and return.
- Serve as a liaison between the district and external agencies/resources related to AT.
- Stay current on emerging assistive technologies, research, and trends through professional development and training.

- Serve as Local Education Agency representative in special education meetings.
