Position Overview

Shorter University's College of Humanities and Social Sciences, Department of Social Sciences invites applications for qualified adjunct/part-time instructors to teach undergraduate psychology courses. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong disciplinary expertise, effective teaching ability, and a commitment to student learning aligned with the institution's mission.

Primary Teaching Responsibilities

* Teach undergraduate psychology courses such as:

* General Psychology

* Developmental Psychology

* Abnormal Psychology

* Deliver instruction consistent with approved course outcomes and departmental expectations

* Use student-centered, evidence-based instructional strategies.

* Assess student learning and provide timely, constructive feedback.

* Maintain regular communication with students (including timely response to inquiries)

* Submit grades, attendance, and required assessment documentation by institutional deadlines.

Institutional & Professional Responsibilities

* Support learning outcomes assessment and accreditation processes as requested.

* Adhere to institutional policies (e.g., FERPA) and academic integrity standards.

* Contribute to a positive learning environment that supports student success and retention.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

* Doctoral degree in Psychology or related field, or

* Master's degree in Psychology, or

* Master's degree in a related field with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Psychology.

Additional requirements:

* Agreement with Shorter University's Mission, Lifestyle Statement, and Statement of Faith.

* Graduate transcripts documenting relevant coursework (official transcripts required upon hire).

* Strong written and oral communication skills.

* Demonstrated content expertise appropriate for undergraduate instruction.

Preferred Qualifications

* Prior experience teaching undergraduate courses (face-to-face and/or online)

* Experience with Learning Management Systems (e.g., Canvas)

* Commitment to engaging, and ethical teaching practices

Work Environment

* Courses may be delivered in face-to-face or online formats.

* Teaching assignments are based on departmental needs and enrollment.

* Adjunct faculty play a key role in supporting student achievement and academic quality.
