Position Title: Special Education Teacher (General Curriculum)

Contract Work Year: 190 Days Based of Certification & Years of Experience

Hours: 8 hours

Reports to: Building Principal

Position Type: Full-Time

Salary: $47,000 to $80,000 Per Year

Provide direct special education services to students eligible under IDEA and GaDOE. Support students, teachers, parents, and act as liaison to community services. Follow federal, state, and district due process policies while supporting school administrators and other special educators.

• Provide specially designed instruction based on high‑leverage evidence‑based practices to students instructed and assessed on the general curriculum.
• Direct the activities of the ESS Paraprofessional to support IEP goal mastery and each student’s access to grade‑level standards.
• Maintain student confidentiality and monitor confidential files for students with disabilities.
• Maintain open and ongoing communication with families, colleagues, IEP team members, and department staff.
• Encourage social skills and participation with disabled and non‑disabled peers.
• Attend staff meetings, teacher training workshops, and educational conferences to maintain and improve professional competence.
• Comply with mandatory reporting requirements for child abuse, harassment, and illegal activity.
• Be available to work on‑site during regular business hours and as needed.
• Compile, maintain, and file reports, records, and documents related to special education eligibility, services, and progress monitoring.
• Adhere to federal and state regulations and local board policy related to IDEA, including timelines and procedures.
• Facilitate IEP meetings with multi‑disciplinary providers to inform educational planning and supports for students with significant cognitive disabilities.
• Perform other duties as assigned by administrator.

• Three years of successful teaching experience (general or special education).
• Valid GAPSC license with special education certification/endorsements:
  Required – Special Ed General Curriculum (P‑12) Consultative [FLD 798].
• Preferred – Elementary Education (P‑5) [FLD 808] or a middle grades or 6‑12 content area certification.
• Exhibit positive interpersonal skills and ability to interact with diverse publics and colleagues.
• Strong communication skills (written, verbal, and electronic).
• Proficient computer, filing, and record‑keeping skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a multi‑disciplinary team.
• Ability to lead teams in decision‑making.
• Exceptional understanding of IDEA policies and procedures.
• Capable of interpreting written materials.
• Punctual and reliable attendance.
• Sound judgment within scope of authority.
