Academic Literacy Interventionist
Rome City Schools – Rome Middle School, Rome, Georgia.
Position summary:
The Academic Interventionist delivers individualized intervention services to students, leads MTSS/RTI efforts, collaborates on instructional planning, and monitors student progress.
- Provide direct individualized intervention services to Tier 2 and Tier 3 students using district‑approved curriculum; may rotate across schools.
- Co‑lead the school problem‑solving team and lead staff development initiatives.
- Guide building assessment practices and implement an RTI framework for literacy and numeracy that supports differentiated instruction, closes the achievement gap, and ensures high levels of learning for all students.
- Observe and evaluate student performance and development, providing feedback to encourage growth.
- Use research‑based literacy and/or numeracy intervention strategies to support students.
- Consult frequently with classroom teachers on matters relating to literacy and mathematics instruction using the district’s progress‑monitoring instrument as a base.
- Participate in district‑provided professional development related to best practice in content areas, assessment, and MTSS/RTI; serve as the building‑level MTSS coordinator.
- Identify students needing Tier 2 and Tier 3 support.
- Collaborate with co‑facilitators to guide behavioral and academic interventions, monitor student data, and ensure teacher support.
- Provide data‑driven strategies that address equitable practices for improving student experiences and achievement.
- Collaborate with the SPED team in referring students for evaluation.
- Implement evidence‑based academic interventions in literacy, numeracy, and/or behavior.
- Analyze district‑wide and school‑level data to determine plans for intervention support.
- Assist staff in analyzing student achievement trend data (universal screeners, diagnostic assessments, progress monitoring tools, and state tests) to personalize instruction.
- Manage student caseload and update progress monitoring data utilizing the MTSS portal.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the administrator.
Education / Certification
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Valid Georgia Teacher’s Certificate.
- Alternative qualifications may be considered by the superintendent.
Experience
- At least three years of experience in K–12 education (elementary and/or secondary).
- Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, as well as speaking and presentation skills.
Skills, Knowledge, Abilities
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret information relevant to the position, and effectively communicate orally and in writing.
- Ability to articulate the district’s vision and mission and provide direction, guidance, and management skills to achieve them.
- Exercise confidentiality in handling district information.
- Proficient in working with students from diverse cultural, economic, and ability backgrounds.
- Knowledge of reading and math intervention programs; proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations; must use e‑mail.
Position Type: Full‑Time
Salary: $50,000 to $80,000 per year
