Adjunct Instructor of Biology

Shorter University's Ware School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Department of Natural Sciences invites applications for qualified adjunct/part-time instructors to teach undergraduate biology courses. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong disciplinary expertise, effective teaching ability, and a commitment to student learning aligned with the institution's mission.

• Teach undergraduate biology courses such as:
  • General Biology Lectures
  • General Biology Laboratory
  • Upper-level Biology courses as needed
• Deliver instruction consistent with approved course outcomes and departmental expectations
• Assess student learning and provide timely, constructive feedback
• Maintain regular communication with students (including timely response to inquiries)
• Submit grades, attendance, and required assessment documentation by institutional deadlines

• Support learning outcomes assessment and accreditation processes as requested
• Adhere to institutional policies (e.g. FERPA) and academic integrity standards
• Contribute to a positive learning environment that supports student success and retention

Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

• Doctoral degree in Biology or related field, or
• Master's degree in Biology, or
• Master's degree in a related field with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Biology

Additional requirements

• Agreement with Shorter University's Mission, Lifestyle Statement, and Statement of Faith
• Graduate transcripts documenting relevant coursework (official transcripts required upon hire)
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Demonstrated content expertise appropriate for undergraduate instruction

• Prior experience teaching undergraduate courses
• Experience with Learning Management Systems (e.g. Canvas)
• Commitment to engaging and ethical teaching practices

• Courses are delivered in a face-to-face environment
• Teaching assignments are based on departmental needs and enrollment
• Adjunct faculty play a key role in supporting student achievement and academic quality
