The Shipping and Receiving Manager is responsible for overseeing all shipping and receiving activities, logistics coordination, and warehouse management within a manufacturing environment. This multifaceted role ensures seamless material flow from storage to production and outbound shipping while maintaining an accurate inventory of raw materials, by-products and finished goods. The manager leads a diverse cross-functional team to meet production demands, optimize inventory, and uphold safety and quality standards in a clean, organized and efficient facility.

Key

Areas of Responsibilities Shipping and Receiving Operations
  • Manage all inbound and outbound shipments, ensuring accurate documentation, timely deliveries, and proper material handling.
  • Inspect incoming materials for quality and quantity, help resolve discrepancies with suppliers promptly.
  • Coordinate with logistics partners, carriers, and freight companies to schedule shipments and optimize transportation costs.
  • Monitor silo inventory levels to prevent shortages and contamination.
Logistics and Supply Chain Coordination
  • Collaborate with procurement and production teams to align inventory levels with operational needs.
  • Oversee transportation logistics to ensuring the product is delivered on time and in excellent condition.
  • Implement systems and processes to improve inventory accuracy and reduce waste.
Warehouse Management
  • Inventory Control:
    Maintain accurate inventory systems, conduct cycle counts, and perform audits to minimize discrepancies.
  • Space Optimization:
    Design and maintain efficient warehouse layouts to maximize storage capacity and streamline material flow.
  • Material handling:
    Supervise safe and efficient warehouse layouts to maximize storage capacity and streamline material flow.

    Supervise safe and efficient loading, unloading, and internal movement of product using appropriate equipment (forklifts, pallet jacks, conveyors).
  • Technology Integration:
    Utilize Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and ERP tools for real-time inventory visibility, order processing and reporting. Explore automation opportunities to enhance efficiency.
  • Housekeeping and Maintenance:
    Ensure facility remains clean, organized and compliant with safety standards. Schedule preventative maintenance for equipment and infrastructure.
  • Performance Metrics:
    Track KPI’s such as order accuracy, inventory turnover and space utilization. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to boost productivity and reduce costs.
Team Leadership and Supervision
  • Lead, train, and supervise a cross-functional team across shipping/receiving and logistics functions.
  • Delegate tasks effectively, monitor performance and provide coaching for skill development.
  • Foster a collaborative and productive work environment aligned with operational goals.
Compliance and Safety
  • Ensure all operations comply with company policies, industry standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA, environmental standards).
  • Train team members on safety protocols and emergency response procedures.
  • Maintain proper use of PPE and enforce safety practices throughout the facility.

Skills and Qualifications
  • Experience
    :
    Proven experience in logistics, shipping/receiving, warehouse management, or similar role in an industrial or manufacturing environment. Leadership experience managing cross-functional teams.
  • Skills
    :
    Strong organizational, multitasking, and problem-solving abilities. Proficiency with inventory management, logistics software, and scheduling tools. Excellent communication and leadership skills to effectively manage teams and collaborate with other departments. Ability to operate a lift truck and tractor trailer…a plus.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work in an manufacturing environment, including standing, walking and working in noisy/dusty areas for extended periods (with proper PPE).
  • Comfortable with climbing, lifting, and working at heights as required with silo operations.
  • Capable of lifting and moving materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
