Job Summary
This position is responsible for preparing for transport and delivering all inter-campus communications, supplies, and equipment to Georgia Highlands College's educational sites. The Courier will deliver campus deliveries to the on-campus departments or receiving locations and pick up any outgoing mail, supplies, or equipment. This position will assist in the sorting of mail and preparation of the college's daily deliveries and may also assist with the receiving of deliveries into the college's centralized receiving location.
Responsibilities- Understand, support, and carry out the college's mission, vision, and values and comply with mandates and regulations of government and accrediting bodies
- Operate and drive vehicle to deliver campus deliveries to the on-campus departments or receiving locations and pickup any outgoing items (mail, moneys, books, supplies, equipment) for delivery to other college locations/destinations
- Operate forklift, floor jack, or hand truck in the loading and unloading of items/packages/materials
- Assist in the sorting of item pickups and deliveries and prepare sorted items to be delivered according to the delivery route or plan and follow the most efficient routing to the specific college's centralized receiving location
- Prepare items/parcels for shipment by campus courier or other vendors
- Obtain receiver signature or receipts upon delivery to receiving location
- Record information into database for deliveries and pickups
- Follow established guidelines to maintain surplus property to include storage, disposal, and recordkeeping for the property
- Assist with maintaining surplus property to include storage, disposal, and recordkeeping for the property
- Maintain assigned motor vehicle/equipment; maintain vehicle logs and report any mechanical problems as appropriate
- Assist with the relocation of college furniture and equipment
- Assist in other areas of the department as needed
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education or equivalent.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one (1) to two (2) years.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
- Knowledge of safe driving principles and practices.
- Knowledge of related shipping and receiving policies.
- Knowledge of vehicle maintenance principles.
- Skill in the use of computers and job-related software programs.
- Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Skills in time management, priority setting, and organization.
- Skills and ability to operate/use motor vehicles, forklifts, floor jacks, or hand trucks.
- Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner.
- Ability to favorably represent the company with external contacts.
- Ability to know your location in relation to the environment or to know where other objects are in relation to you and the vehicle.
- Ability to repeatedly lift and move heavy objects.
$19.23/hour
