Duties and responsibilities the united nations inter-regional crime and justice research institute (unicri) is a united nations entity established in 1968 to support countries worldwide in preventing crime and facilitating criminal justice. Unicri is mandated to assist intergovernmental, governmental and non-governmental organizations in formulating and implementing improved policies in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice. Unicri' 's goals are:

- to advance understanding of crime-related problems;

- to foster just and efficient criminal justice systems;

- to support the respect of international instruments and other standards;

- to facilitate international law enforcement cooperation and judicial assistance. This position is located in the unicri rome liaison office. The unicri rome liaison office liaises with the host country, the diplomatic corps, the academic and business sectors, the rome-based un agencies, and the civil society. In close cooperation with relevant counterparts, unicri rome liaison office supports the communication for new projects;

follows up on the ongoing projects financed by the italian foreign ministry; facilitates meetings with government officials for unicri’s programme managers; and represents unicri in events in rome. Unicri rome liaison office works in close collaboration with hq to implement visibility and advocacy activities, such as conferences and events, ad hoc meetings and short specialized courses to highlight unicri’s priority topics, maintains the website (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).

For more information, please visit: The internship is for an initial period of 2 months, starting, preferably in september 2026, with an opportunity for an extension up to a total period of six months. The internship is unpaid and full-time.

Interns work five days per week (35 hours), supporting the rome liaison office team.  Applicants to this internship position may be requested to undertake the internship by working partially remotely in telecommuting. Applicants must be willing and prepared to undertake the internship remotely and must have all necessary arrangements and equipment (including a computer and internet connection) to perform assignments in teleworking.

Under the general supervision of the rome liaison officer the incumbent will support the rome office team in carrying out visibility and advocacy activities, with particular regard to the organization of events such as conferences, specialized courses, selected symposia and debates, workshops and expert meetings. In particular, the intern will carry out the following tasks:

- assist the rome liaison office team with its daily work related to visibility and advocacy activities.

- conduct internet research on thematic issues relevant to the unicri work programme.

- monitor inboxes of the specialised courses programmes and rome office to respond to queries from students wishing to enrol in the specialized courses and from other stakeholders wishing to attend conferences and events promoted by the rome office.

- provide logistic support to in-person events hosted by the rome liaison office.

- assist with planning and organization of in-person and online events, including researching speakers and preparing invitations and promotional material.

- maintain the databases for the rome office visibility and advocacy events. In particular, the intern will be required to update the database related to both the italian and global academic network with particular reference to faculties related to unicri's mandate.

- provide general office support (processing, drafting and finalizing correspondence and other communications; setting up and maintaining files/records; and organizing meetings).
