LPN-GI Office

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides direct patient care and clinical support in Gastroenterology (GI) office. The LPN works closely with the entire care team and other healthcare professionals to provide safe, efficient, and compassionate care to patients with gastrointestinal conditions. Other duties include, but are not limited to, the following essential job functions:

• Obtain and document patient information
• Perform patient assessments
• Prepare patients for GI procedures and provide appropriate pre- and post-procedure care.
• Provide patient education regarding care
• Administer treatments as ordered and within LPN scope of practice.
• Assist with telephone triage and respond to patient questions and concerns appropriately.
• Coordinate referrals, diagnostic testing, follow-up appointments, and other aspects of patient care.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
• Follow infection-control, safety, HIPAA, and organizational policies and procedures.
• Maintain clean, organized, and properly stocked clinical areas.

Minimum Qualifications

• New York State license as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
• Graduate of an accredited practical nursing program.
• Current BLS/CPR certification.
• Previous ambulatory, physician-office, medical-surgical, or GI experience preferred.

Physical Demands

Combination of walking and standing. Heavy lifting, 45 pounds or over and positioning of patients is required. Light carrying under 15 pounds. Pushing, pulling, kneeling and bending required. Frequent reaching, some above shoulders, handling and fingering of instruments and equipment. Talking and hearing for communicating with other personnel and patients. Hearing to distinguish differences and variations of vital signs of patients.

Near-visual acuity required to work with a charts and records and to observe patients to detect changes in patient conditions, to read gauges and dials on equipment. Color vision for perceiving changes in patient's skin color, color of medicines and solutions.
