Special Education Paraprofessional (#22953) –
VACANCY: The Valley View Public School District is seeking an individual to fill a full-time Special Education Paraprofessional position for the 2026/2027 school year.
JOB SUMMARY: Under the direct supervision of a licensed staff member the paraprofessional assists in the educational, functional, and social development of students with disabilities across settings.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Assists and guides students with academic tasks and functional skills as assigned by teacher/clinician.
- Supervises and assists students with transitions in classroom and educational settings, during structured and unstructured activities (e.g., lunchroom, restroom, playground, community settings).
- Provides academic, functional, and behavioral support to students in accordance with Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and related support plans.
- Assists with communication, scheduling, and adaptations of curriculum and the educational environment to meet student needs.
- Works with students individually or in small groups to reinforce learning concepts.
- Maintains record-keeping to track and record student progress.
- Implements classroom management strategies to ensure safety and a supportive learning environment.
- Constructs, copies, distributes, and uses educational materials as directed.
- Applies safety protocols and assistance methods for students.
- Collapses instruction and classroom activities with teachers and other staff to coordinate plans.
- Utilizes computers, instructional technology, assistive devices, and equipment to support students and teachers.
- Attends staff meetings and professional development as needed.
- Provides assistance with assistive devices, supportive technology, and accessing facilities such as the restroom.
- Implements therapeutic regimens such as behavior modification and sensory breaks under supervision.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with endorsement for Paraprofessional Educator.
- High School Diploma or equivalent with 30 hours of college coursework.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Ability to establish a supportive and compassionate relationship with students with special needs.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Motivated, energetic, adaptable to change; initiative and follow-through.
- Calmly handles stressful situations professionally.
- Academic proficiency in mathematics and language arts to support grade-level content.
- Follows written or oral instructions reliably.
- Maintains confidentiality of information regarding students and employees.
- Knowledge of curriculum materials and instructional techniques (desirable).
- Professionalism as a student role model and colleague.
- Bilingual proficiency for translation and interpretation when required.
- Communicates verbally, sees, and hears regularly.
- Pulls, pushes, ambulates, performs tasks from standing and seated positions, and uses fine motor skills.
- Occasionally stoops, kneels, crouches, and lifts up to 25 pounds.
- Maneuvers and physically assists students as needed.
- Assists with activities of daily living, including toileting, diapering, and eating, per IEP guidelines.
- Medical, vision, and dental coverage provided through BCBSIL.
