Under the direct supervision of a licensed staff member, the paraprofessional assists in the educational, functional, and social development of students with disabilities across settings.
Essential Functions- Assist and guide students with academic tasks and functional skills as assigned by teacher/clinician.
- Supervise and assist students with transitions in classroom and educational settings, during both structured and unstructured activities indicated by their Individual Education Plan (IEP), both within and outside the school building.
- Provide academic, functional, and behavioral support in accordance with IEPs and other related support plans.
- Assist with communication, scheduling, and adaptations of curriculum and the educational environment to meet students' needs.
- Work with students individually or in small groups to reinforce learning concepts.
- Assist with record‑keeping to track and record student progress.
- Implement established classroom management strategies to ensure student safety, a supportive learning environment, and student engagement.
- Construct, copy, and distribute educational materials as directed.
- Apply all rules and procedures governing safety protocols and methods of assistance for students.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and other staff to coordinate instructional plans and prepare for activities.
- Use computers, instructional technology, assistive devices, equipment, and materials necessary for student and teacher support; support students in the use of these tools.
- Attend staff meetings and professional development as needed or requested.
- Assist students with assistive devices and supportive technology, and help access facilities such as the restroom.
- Implement therapeutic regimens such as behavior modification and sensory breaks under supervision.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Minimum valid Illinois Professional Educator License with stipulations, endorsed for Paraprofessional Educator.
- Minimum HS Diploma or equivalent with 30 hours of college coursework.

- Academic proficiency in mathematics and language arts, and ability to support students with grade‑level content.
- Ability to follow instructions furnished in written or oral form.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding students, employees, and others.
- Knowledge of curriculum materials and instructional techniques desirable.
- Professionalism as a student role model and colleague.
- For bilingual positions, fluency in the designated language for translation and interpretation, if appropriate.
- Ability to communicate verbally, see, and hear.
- Ability to pull, push, ambulate, and perform tasks from standing and seated positions, and use fine motor manipulation during normal duties.
- Ability to occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, and lift or move up to twenty-five pounds.
- Ability to maneuver and physically assist students as necessary.
- May require assisting students with activities of daily living, including toileting, diapering, and eating, as indicated in IEP.
- May be responsible for assisting feeding and lifting of students.
Salary is in accordance with the Paraprofessional Salary Schedule.

The salary and work year are 181 days and are in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement between the Valley View Council and the Board of Education. A physical exam and a negative tuberculosis test are required. FLSA Non‑Exempt.
