Position: Mechanical Engineer I / II

Automated Design Corporation specializes in the design and development of automated sports-testing equipment, industrial automation, and robotic systems. We combine precision engineering, hands-on prototyping, and advanced mechanical design to deliver reliable, high-performance automated solutions.

Position Overview

We are hiring one mechanical engineer and will place the right candidate at either the Engineer I or Engineer II level based on experience - so we encourage both new graduates and engineers with several years of professional design experience to apply. Either way, you will work on mechanical design, drafting, assembly, and troubleshooting across a variety of automated systems. This role blends Solid Works design work with hands-on mechanical assembly and real-world engineering problem solving.

Engineer II candidates will take on greater design ownership and independence from the start.

Key Responsibilities
  • All levels:
Create and modify parts, assemblies, and detailed 2D drawings in Solid Works.
  • Generate and maintain bills of materials (BOMs) and manage drawing revisions.
  • Apply tolerancing to ensure proper fit, function, and manufacturability.
  • Assist with prototype builds and system assembly.
  • Help diagnose and resolve mechanical issues during assembly and integration.
  • Follow and contribute to company engineering standards and manufacturing practices.
Additional responsibilities at the Engineer II level
  • Independently design complex parts, assemblies, and subsystems from concept through release.
  • Apply GD&T for manufacturability and reliability.
  • Plan and execute mechanical testing and validation.
  • Manage documentation and revisions with minimal oversight.
  • Collaborate directly with manufacturing, quality, suppliers, and cross-functional teams.
  • Propose design improvements to enhance performance, cost, or manufacturability.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Solid Works experience - for Engineer I candidates, school projects, internships, or personal design work are acceptable.
  • Understanding of mechanical principles, materials, tolerances, and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to work hands-on with tools and mechanical assemblies.
  • Strong attention to detail.
Additional requirements for the Engineer II level
  • 3-6 years of professional mechanical engineering experience.
  • Strong Solid Works proficiency, including assemblies, configurations, GD&T, and detailed drawings.
  • Demonstrated experience with mechanical troubleshooting and hands-on assembly in a professional setting.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with automation, mechanisms, or motion systems.
  • Experience with warehouse automation or palletizing robots.
  • Exposure to GD&T (required at the Engineer II level, a plus at Engineer I).
  • Familiarity with FEA interpretation or tolerance stack-ups.
  • Experience with prototyping, machining, or fabrication.
  • Experience working with suppliers or contract manufacturers.
  • Participation in engineering clubs or competitions (SAE, robotics, senior design, etc.).
Compensation & Benefits
  • 100% employer-paid medical insurance
  • Paid vacation:
Engineer II: starts at 3 weeks
  • Engineer I: 1 week after 3 months, increasing to 3 weeks after 1 year
  • Paid holidays
  • Professional development opportunities
  • Hands-on work on advanced automated systems, with increasing ownership and responsibility
