Position Description
Ryder is hiring a Diesel Technician Trainee in Romeoville, IL. The role offers weekly pay and benefits, and includes paid on‑the‑job training to become a Ryder Diesel Mechanic Technician.
Benefits- Hourly pay: $24.93
- Schedule:
Tuesday – Saturday, 6:30 am – 3:00 pm (First shift) - No experience required; on‑the‑job paid training provided
- PPE and uniforms issued, tool and boot allowance provided

- High school diploma or GED
- Up to one year of work experience; mechanical experience preferred
- 18 years of age or older
- Proficiency in written and verbal English communication
- Demonstrated customer service skills
- Strong technical aptitude and ability to learn equipment and machinery
- Ability to troubleshoot, work independently and as part of a team, and demonstrate time‑management skills
- Strong sense of personal accountability and track record of performance
- Basic computer and Microsoft Office skills (beginner level)
- Knowledge of machines and tools, shop management systems, and relevant safety procedures (beginner level)
- Valid commercial driver’s license (Class A) or eligible to obtain one within six months of hire
- DOT safety regulated position – basic safety training required
- Pass a Ryder drug test, DOT physical, Ryder road test, and background check
- Must be able to obtain a CDL within six months after hire if not already holding one
- Must have a minimum age and work‑hour eligibility per state law
- Move and handle heavy‑duty vehicles in and out of the yard, wash bay, service shop, and rental shop; wash and detail vehicles manually or using automated equipment; fuel diesel, natural gas, and hybrid vehicles in accordance with safety policies; record fuel activity and maintain proper fuel and DEF inventories.
- Perform multi‑point inspections on inbound units, checking tire pressure and tread, fluid levels, lights, and washing windows; inspect refrigeration units on trucks and report any issues.
- Maintain the fuel island area to Six Sigma standards; perform minor facility maintenance tasks as assigned.
- Attend and complete all Technician Training Development Program requirements and assessments, including hands‑on and online training.
- Training Modules:
- Service Island Training:
Multi‑point inspection, vehicle fueling and washing, environmental safety, spill response, safe driving, service island organization, 6S standards. - Technician I Training:
Preventive maintenance, tire and wheel, service bay tools. - Technician II Training: HD electrical, air and hydraulic brakes.
- Service Island Training:
- Perform other duties as assigned.
