Purpose Statement

The Controls Technician 3 will maintain all of the plant and production electrical and control systems. This includes electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, mechanical and network sub‑systems. The Technician will be responsible to train and to coordinate the efforts of Maintenance Technicians on all shifts and assist as necessary in troubleshooting and documentation of root cause failure analyses. Work by direction from the Maintenance Supervisor, Maintenance Planner and/or Maintenance Manager, ensuring that the maintenance and production schedules are adhered to.

  • Inspect, diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, install, and maintain food processing, packaging, and automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Perform preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance on mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and control systems.
  • Troubleshoot, program, and maintain PLCs, VFDs, servo drives, motor controls, power distribution systems, and automation platforms.
  • Install, modify, and upgrade equipment and control systems to improve reliability and performance.
  • Maintain facility and utility systems, including refrigeration, HVAC, compressed air, steam, water, and electrical infrastructure.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, allergen control, HACCP, GMP, safety, and company policies.
  • Communicate equipment, operational, and food safety concerns to supervision in a timely manner.
  • Use required PPE and report unsafe conditions, incidents, and injuries.
  • Complete accurate maintenance documentation, work orders, and system records.
  • Support production by minimizing downtime and performing repairs efficiently.
  • Train and assist maintenance personnel with troubleshooting and repair activities as needed.
  • Demonstrate strong mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting skills, communication abilities, and a commitment to safety.
  • Work effectively in a fast‑paced environment with reliable attendance.
  • Travel as required for training, technical support, and parts procurement.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, compliance, and operational efficiency.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
  • CMMS
    • Must be able to create notifications and input time on work orders
    • Must supply feedback to update procedures and deficiencies noted in SAP
    • Must be able to write job specific procedures and establish job task frequencies
  • Must utilize all safety devices, comply with all safety policies and procedures at all times
  • Must exhibit semi‑skilled mechanical and plumbing skills
  • Must display semi‑skilled trouble shooting skills of processing equipment and packing equipment
  • Must have skilled electrical skills for 120V – 480V
  • Must exhibit skilled trouble shooting skills using laptop of PLC, VFD, HMI operations
  • Must be able to teach trouble shooting skills using laptop of PLC, VFD, HMI operations
