The Assistant Teacher will collaborate with teachers to support student learning both inside and outside of the classroom. Outside of the classroom, the Assistant Teacher actively ensures the safety and well-being of students, play areas and grounds for safety. Inside the classroom, the Assistant Teacher will collaborate with teachers to create a teaching environment that allows for more flexibility and increased opportunities for student-teacher interaction and a high quality program of instruction and student support.

The ideal candidate will understand the developmental stages of children, ability to use multiple teaching strategies to provide for a range of student needs, the ability to develop and support a positive learning environment, and the ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with students to support their learning.   • Faculty Salary Range*: $41,853 - $81,079 - Compensation is commensurate with qualifications
  • Punahou School offers a comprehensive total rewards program that includes competitive pay and benefits. The pay rate, if displayed, is the minimum hourly rate for the position. Pay for selected candidates will be determined by various factors such as knowledge, skills, abilities, relevant training and experience, and internal equity.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in an Education related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • CPR Certification preferred.
  • Two (2) years of experience supervising students in a pre‑K or elementary setting.
  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds; an understanding of the developmental needs of young children, sensitivity to each individual student’s needs; and ability to appreciate the variety of perspectives offered by individual viewpoints, disciplines and cultural understandings.
