Elementary Instrumental Music Teacher
Potentially a traveling position at Romulus Elementary Schools starting in the school year. Reports to building principal(s).
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
- Valid Michigan teaching certificate with a Music (JX or JQ) endorsement
- Awareness of the physical, social, emotional and mental development of the learner
- Proficient and knowledgeable in the subject area
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with students, parents and staff
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Knowledge of data and how it is used to inform instruction
- Proficient with technology as an instructional tool
Responsibilities:
- Provide instrumental music instruction to elementary students in small group and/or full ensemble settings
- Introduce and develop foundational skills in rhythm, tone production, music literacy, and performance
- Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based lessons aligned with district and state music standards
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students
- Organize and direct student performances, concerts, and school/community events
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and staff to support student learning and school initiatives
- Maintain and manage music equipment, instruments, and instructional materials
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff regarding student progress and program expectations
- Establish and maintain a positive, safe, and respectful classroom environment
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and school activities as assigned
- This position is required to travel between buildings
- Perform other duties as assigned
Physical demands include occasionally lifting and moving up to 25 pounds in supplies which requires bending, stooping and lifting. The employee must use a variety of instructional materials in the classroom. The employee must use hands and arms to manipulate objects. The employee must use keyboards, tools and other controls. The employee must sit and stand for long periods of time.
The employee must have normal vision and hearing with or without aid. The employee must be able to move about assigned location unaided during the day.
Work environment is usually moderate to loud with interaction with students, staff, parents/guardians and occasionally with the public. At times, the employee may be directly responsible for the safety and well-being of students.
