Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Plans, directs, and implements environmental, health and safety (EHS) programs to ensure compliance and to identify and resolve EHS deficiencies and/or issues. Performs the following duties personally or through supervisors or associates:

  • Health and Safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal OSHA rules and regulations.
  • Environmental programs and prepares/submits environmental reports in compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
  • Programs to train managers, supervisors and associates in site safety practices, fire prevention, personal protective equipment, and various EHS policies and corporate programs.

Ensures timely and accurate reporting of required regulatory submissions including permit reports, OSHA logs and workers’ compensation claims.

Manages
  • Sites environmental program (hazardous waste program, stormwater program, wastewater monitoring, air quality reporting, acting as liaison with local regulatory agencies, ensuring submission of applicable monthly, periodic, and annual environmental reports, working with Corporate EHS personnel on a frequent basis).
  • Industrial hygiene sampling for a variety of physical and chemical hazards. As necessary, contract specialized industrial hygiene work to a qualified third party and prepare / file corresponding documentation for easy retrieval and demonstration of monitoring compliance.
  • Sites workers’ compensation program and return to work programs in collaboration with HR.
  • Interaction with EHS regulatory agencies during site inspections (when possible); provide guidance to satellite sites on EHS regulatory inspections.
Leads
  • Investigation of accidents and injuries and cooperate in the preparation of material utilizing EBS tools.
  • Investigates employee environmental, health and safety suggestions and complaints, discusses findings and recommends possible solutions in a timely manner.
  • Corrective measures to improve site’s accident experience and to suggest/implement means to achieve site EHS goals.
  • New Hire Safety Orientation.
  • Job hazard analysis, ergonomic reviews, and risk assessments to identify and minimize risks.
  • Inspections of facility to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determines corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.

Other duties may be assigned, in addition to those identified above.

Anticipated travel of up to 15%.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises one employee.

Job Requirements

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree from a four‑year college or university in EHS or related field; and at least five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

English fluent (mandatory). Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, fundamentals of plane and solid geometry, and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills

Knowledge of human resource systems, spreadsheet software, and word processing software.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, and occasionally lift or move up to 10 pounds.

Work Environment

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
