High School Athletic Trainer
The High School Athletic Trainer is responsible for supporting the health, safety, and medical readiness of student-athletes in accordance with MHSAA guidelines and district policies. This position provides athletic training coverage for assigned athletic practices and competitions, oversees athlete medical clearance requirements, and maintains organization of the athletic training room and medical documentation. The Athletic Trainer works collaboratively with coaches, administrators, parents, physicians, and student-athletes to promote safe participation in interscholastic athletics.
Responsibilities include providing athletic training services during assigned athletic practices, contests, and events. The Athletic Trainer evaluates and responds to athletic injuries and medical emergencies, administers first aid, injury care, and emergency procedures when necessary, coordinates referrals to physicians or healthcare providers when appropriate, communicates injury status and participation limitations to coaches and athletic administration, maintains organization and cleanliness of the athletic training room during assigned coverage periods, monitors athletic training supplies and notifies administration regarding inventory or equipment needs, maintains injury and treatment documentations as required, oversees collection and verification of required MHSAA physical examination forms, ensures all student-athletes are medically cleared prior to participation, monitors athlete participation status related to injuries, physician restrictions, and return-to-play protocols, maintains accurate and confidential medical records in compliance with district policies and applicable privacy regulations, serves as a resource to coaches regarding injury prevention and athlete safety, communicates with parents/guardians regarding injuries and participation status when appropriate, and works cooperatively with school nurses, physicians, emergency personnel, and athletic administration.
Follows all MHSAA regulations, district policies, and applicable state athletic training standards.
Physical demands include occasionally stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and twisting while performing job duties. The employee must occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds in supplies which requires bending, stooping, lifting, and reaching. The employee may have to push and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight. The employee must use and operate a variety of office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including the use of a computer keyboard.
The employee must use hands and arms to manipulate objects. The employee will have extensive verbal communication with administrators, staff, students, parents, & guests to communicate, to receive, and exchange information. The employee must use keyboards, tools, and other controls. The employee must sit and stand for prolonged periods of time. The employee must have normal vision and hearing with or without aid.
The employee must be able to move about the assigned work location during the day.
Position is limited to coverage of assigned athletic practices, competitions, and related events. Evening and weekend availability required based on athletics schedules.
