Overview
Manufacturing / Process Engineer. Candidate will support 2nd and 3rd shift and work 2-3 weekends a month. Pay around $48-$53/hr with ample OT.
Responsibilities- Typical day:
Engineering shift support for manufacturing operations in the transmission machining department for gear, case, valve body, and solenoid body machining operations. - What background is best? Gear manufacturing experience/familiarity. (Department operations include broaching, hobbing, bore honing, face grinding, hard turning, and laser welding operations.)
- CNC programming experience (ability to read, make adjustments to NC programming).
- GM Romulus plant specifically handles transmission machining and assembly operations, which aligns with a background of gear, case, valve body, and solenoid body machining.
What are the most critical machining operations the candidate will support daily? Gear machining experience is the most critical.
How hands-on will this role be with CNC programming adjustments versus troubleshooting? More troubleshooting. Most equipment they would not have to make adjustments.
Are there any specific transmission components or gear types the candidate should have experience with? Broaches, Hobbs, gear grinding, face grinding, hard turning operations. If the candidate is not experienced in all, that is fine. Not a deal breaker.
What level of GD&T knowledge is required—basic interpretation or advanced application? Just basic interpretation and reading print.
What are the most common challenges engineers face in this department, and how do you expect this person to overcome them? Willingness to learn and being able to work with cross functional teams.
Year of Experience Required
? 5 years minimum. Help if their experience comes from automotive manufacturing.
Education Required? Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or manufacturing engineering. Technical degrees are fine too.
