Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled Machinist to join our team in Romulus, MI. The ideal candidate will be responsible for operating manual and CNC machinery to fabricate, modify, and repair tube components and assemblies for aircraft applications. This role requires precision, creativity in problem-solving, and a commitment to quality in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The Machinist will contribute to innovating processes and ensuring parts meet stringent aerospace standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate lathes, mills, grinders, and CNC machines to produce precision parts from blueprints, sketches, or specifications.
  • Fabricate and assemble tube components, including bending, welding, flaring, flanging, expanding, and forming materials like stainless steel, Inconel, and aluminum.
  • Design, build, and maintain custom fixtures, tooling, and jigs to improve machining efficiency.
  • Innovate and optimize machining processes to enhance accuracy, reduce waste, and meet production deadlines.
  • Perform routine maintenance on machinery, troubleshoot issues, and ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently.
  • Inspect finished parts using precision measuring tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, gauges) to verify compliance with tolerances and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with engineers, production teams, and welders to resolve fabrication challenges and support project requirements.
  • Maintain a clean, organized workspace and adhere to all safety protocols, including OSHA guidelines.
  • Document processes, track inventory of materials, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; technical certification or associate degree in machining, manufacturing, or a related field preferred.
  • At least 3+ years of experience as a machinist, preferably in aerospace or tube fabrication.
  • Proficiency in operating manual lathes, mills, and CNC equipment.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
  • Knowledge of metalworking processes, including welding, brazing, grinding, and end forming.
  • Familiarity with materials commonly used in aerospace, such as stainless steel, Inconel, and aluminum.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently or in a team.
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and handle repetitive tasks.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including potential overtime or shifts.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with CAD/CAM software for programming CNC machines.
  • Welding certification (e.g., AWS) or hands-on welding experience.
  • Background in aircraft component manufacturing or tube assembly.
  • Ability to fabricate custom parts from scratch and innovate solutions for complex projects.
