Carpenter – Repacking and Custom Crating (Warehouse)

This role focuses on building and customizing wooden packaging and crating solutions for high-value products within a large warehouse environment. You will support a small repacking team by measuring, cutting, and assembling custom buildouts that replace traditional waste-heavy packaging materials, helping customers meet sustainability goals. The position requires strong carpentry skills, consistent attendance, and the ability to work independently in a laid-back, non-micromanaged setting.

Responsibilities

  • Measure, cut, and build custom wooden packaging and buildouts for expensive products to ensure safe and secure shipment.
  • Break down pallets and remove existing shipping materials, including plastic discs and other components from axles.
  • Repack axles and related parts using custom-built wooden structures and appropriate packing methods.
  • Label products, pallets, and packages accurately to ensure correct identification and shipment.
  • Organize parts and materials in an orderly manner to maintain an efficient and safe work area.
  • Buckle and secure pallets for shipment to prevent damage during transit.
  • Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively for cutting, fastening, and assembling wood and other materials.
  • Read and interpret simple blueprints or layout instructions to build rough carpentry structures as required.
  • Handle, load, and move materials throughout the warehouse using proper lifting and material handling techniques.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work station, ensuring tools and materials are stored properly.
  • Follow all safety procedures and warehouse guidelines while performing general labor and construction-related tasks.
  • Demonstrate reliable attendance and punctuality to support a small team where each member is critical to daily operations.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds repetitively throughout the shift, particularly when handling shipping and building materials.
  • Proven experience performing physically demanding work such as construction, carpentry, roofing, or rough framing that involves lifting 50+ pounds for most of the day.
  • Ability to stand on your feet for the full duration of an 8-hour shift, with demonstrated stamina for continuous standing and movement.
  • Hands-on carpentry experience, including rough carpentry, framing, or construction-related tasks.
  • Proficiency using hand tools and power tools safely and effectively in a carpentry or construction environment.
  • Experience with packing, packaging, loading, and general material handling in a warehouse or similar setting.
  • Ability to follow instructions, read simple blueprints or diagrams, and translate them into practical buildouts.
  • Strong reliability and attendance, especially in a small team environment where each person's presence is essential.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience building larger wooden carpentry packages, crates, or custom shipping structures.
  • Experience in roofing, rough framing, or other construction trades that involve structural woodwork.
  • Prior experience in a warehouse environment, particularly in repacking, shipping, or general labor roles.
  • Lead experience or prior responsibility for guiding others on a crew or project.
  • Familiarity with building material tools and equipment commonly used in carpentry and construction.
  • Comfort working in a laid-back, minimally supervised environment while maintaining productivity and quality.

Why Work Here?

You will join a unionized warehouse operation that offers clear paths for growth and long-term stability. As you develop your skills and demonstrate strong performance, you can move into roles such as operating forklifts, leading teams, or specializing in cutting lumber and other advanced tasks. Once you become a direct employee and meet the eligibility period, you can join the union and gain access to pension benefits, as well as medical, dental, and vision coverage.

The culture emphasizes opportunity, internal mobility, and rewarding those who are willing to take on extra hours and responsibilities.

Work Environment

Lighting is somewhat dim but adequate, and the floors have a garage-like feel. The warehouse is kept clean and organized, with a strong emphasis on orderly storage of materials and tools.

You will work a Monday through Friday schedule from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with an average of 40 to 56 hours per week. Overtime is typically optional, except for some Saturdays when it may be mandated;
Saturday shifts usually run from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. When overtime is available and you choose to take it, it typically begins two hours before the regular shift, starting at 6:00 a.m. The schedule includes two paid 15-minute breaks at 10:00 a.m. and 3:00…
