Job Overview

Mechanic at Ferrous Processing and Trading (FPT), Romulus, MI. Responsible for repairs and maintenance of trucks and heavy‑duty machinery.

• Ensure adherence to safety standards, use required PPE, remove hazards, maintain cleanliness.
• Perform repairs on engines, brakes, suspensions, transmissions, and electrical equipment on site trucks and yard machinery.
• Diagnose and repair air systems and electrical issues.
• Inspect, lubricate, and service equipment per company maintenance schedules.
• Change flat tires, make service calls on down trucks, pick up parts from dealerships.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues; make necessary repairs, adjustments, or replacements.
• Drive trucks and trailers to test performance.
• Perform cleaning duties related to plant equipment and general housekeeping.
• Other duties as assigned.

• High School Diploma or GED; at least 18 years of age.
• Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred.
• Experience as a diesel mechanic and with hydraulic systems preferred.
• Experience with welding and torching preferred.
• Mechanic license or equivalent experience.
• Ability to work independently, self‑motivated and self‑directed.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to maintain accurate records.
• Ability to follow oral and written communication.
• Ability to climb ladders or steps.
• Ability to endure physical and outdoor work daily.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Work cooperatively with employees and the public.
• Work on rotating shifts.
• Comfortable working in environments with dust, dirt, vibrations, extreme climate, and weather changes.
• Pre‑employment background check, physical fitness, and drug screen required.
