Romulus, MI Ferrous Processing and Trading (FPT) is one of North America’s premier processors, buyers, sellers and recyclers of scrap metals of all kinds and is a key supplier to the metals industry of North America. FPT is a wholly-owned business of Cleveland-Cliffs has an immediate opportunity for a Mechanic at our Romulus, MI location.

Job Summary

The Mechanic is responsible for the repairs and maintenance of trucks and heavy‑duty machinery.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure adherence to safety standards including use of required personal protective equipment (PPE), remove hazards as identified, and maintain cleanliness of the site.
  • Performs repairs on engines, brakes, suspensions, transmissions, and electrical equipment on the site’s trucks and yard machinery.
  • Air system diagnostics and repair.
  • Electrical diagnostics and repairs.
  • Inspect, lubricate and service equipment per company maintenance schedules.
  • Change flat tires.
  • Make service calls on down trucks and pick up parts from various dealerships as required.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues and make necessary repairs, adjustments, or replacements.
  • Drive trucks and trailers to test their performance.
  • Perform cleaning duties related to plant equipment and general housekeeping.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED and must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have valid driver’s license, CDL preferred.
  • Experience as a diesel mechanic and experience with hydraulic systems preferred.
  • Experience welding and torching preferred.
  • Mechanic license or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to work independently, self‑motivated and self‑directed.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to follow oral and written communication.
  • Ability to climb ladders or steps to reach objects.
  • Ability to endure physical and outdoor work on a daily basis.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Work cooperatively with other employees and the public.
  • Must be able to work rotating shifts.
  • Must be able to work in an environment where routinely exposed to dust, dirt, vibrations, extreme climate and changes in weather.
