Position: Transformer Engineer / Senior Magnetics Technician

Transformer Engineer / Senior Magnetics Technician

A confidential employer in Ronkonkoma, New York is looking for a Transformer Engineer or Senior Magnetics Technician to lead the development and testing of critical magnetic components. In this role, you will work directly with transformers, inductors, and power conversion systems that power advanced defense and industrial applications.

At a well-established company operating in the defense and industrial electronics space, you'll find a rare opening for a magnetics expert who wants real technical ownership. This organization has built a reputation through decades of innovation in power systems, and its growing customer base relies on magnetic components that perform flawlessly under demanding conditions. Here, you won't be a small cog—you'll be the person who shapes how transformers, inductors, and inverters are designed and delivered.

As a Transformer Engineer or Senior Magnetics Technician, your day-to-day involves hands-on work with magnetic cores, windings, and assemblies that are the heartbeat of modern power conversion. You'll support the entire product lifecycle, from initial concept and prototyping through testing, qualification, and production support. The components you help perfect will go into critical systems used in aerospace, defense, and advanced commercial applications, where reliability and precision are non-negotiable.

This role is crafted for someone who blends theoretical knowledge with practical skill—whether you have an engineering degree and two-plus years in magnetics, or you are a veteran technician who can troubleshoot a winding issue with intuition. The ideal candidate communicates clearly with both engineers and customers, takes pride in solving tough problems, and isn't afraid to get their hands dirty on the test bench.

You'll thrive if you love seeing a design through from a sketch to a factory floor.

The opportunity comes with a compensation package ranging from $85,000 to $130,000 per year, with flexibility for the right background. Relocation assistance is negotiable, and the team is eager to bring on board someone who can make an immediate impact. If you're ready to step into a role where your magnetics knowledge is respected and your work truly matters, we encourage you to apply today and start the conversation.

Non-Negotiables
  • You have hands-on experience designing, testing, or manufacturing magnetic components such as transformers, inductors, cores, and windings
  • You possess strong knowledge of magnets, transformers, inverters, and winding technologies
  • You are capable of troubleshooting electrical and magnetic performance issues independently
  • You hold at least two years of relevant experience for an engineer, or more years as a senior technician
  • A bachelor's degree is preferred, but equivalent hands-on experience and an associate degree are acceptable
  • You are comfortable working on-site in Ronkonkoma, New York, with no remote flexibility
What's In It For You
  • A competitive salary ranging from $85,000 to $130,000 per year, with potential flexibility for highly experienced engineers
  • A stable and well-established company operating in a high-growth market with a broad product suite
  • An outstanding work environment that values innovation, technical excellence, and employee contribution
  • Relocation assistance is negotiable, making it easier to join the team on Long Island
  • Immediate opportunity to own technical projects from design through production, giving you visible impact
  • Collaborative culture where your work directly influences customer success and company growth
Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, test, and troubleshoot magnetic components including transformers, inductors, cores, and windings
  • Support the development of inverter and power conversion products using your magnetic expertise
  • Work with customers and internal engineering teams to define technical specifications and requirements
  • Analyze test data to identify and resolve design, manufacturing, and performance issues in magnetic assemblies
  • Assist with prototype builds, product qualification, and ongoing production support activities
  • Prepare technical presentations and documentation, and collaborate with suppliers to source components
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with magnetic materials, wire, laminations, bobbins, and related components is highly desirable
  • Experience supporting inverter and power conversion product development gives you a strong advantage
  • Ability to produce clear technical documentation and present findings to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • A track record of successful prototype builds and product qualification activities
  • Strong interpersonal skills for working with customers, suppliers, and cross-functional teams
