Part Time Special Education Instructional Assistant – Early Intervention / Early Childhood Special Education for Douglas ESD. The position serves schools in Douglas County and may be located anywhere in the district, currently in Myrtle Creek. It involves 155 days per year, typically 4 days per week (occasionally Fridays), 7.5 hours per day. The position begins in the 2026-27 school year;
summers off.
Starting salary: $21.52 – $27.72 per hour (depending on relevant verifiable experience).
Job Summary:
Implements individualized programs, activities and supervision of assigned students with disabilities as directed by classroom teacher.
- Assist with helping students develop positive interpersonal relationships with peers and adults; promote safety, self-confidence and coping skills.
- Apply appropriate techniques and methods of student supervision and classroom management for students with moderate to severe learning and/or social/behavioral problems.
- Assist in the delivery of instructional programs and activities to students with moderate to severe learning and physical disabilities and/or social/behavioral problems.
- Work effectively in emotionally or physically fatiguing environments.
- Work with students who may exhibit aggressive behavior as required.
- Attend to students’ physical needs: mobility, eating, dressing, bath rooming, diapering and other nursing tasks with proper training, including possible swimming activities.
- Prepare and clean up classroom, playground and student areas.
- Organize and supervise games and other recreational activities to promote physical, mental, and social development.
- Utilize therapeutic interventions as trained, including performing physical restraints as directed.
- Implement individualized programs with students as directed by supervisor.
- Type or write reports, IEPs/IFSPs, and other forms from teacher‑prepared scripts.
- Collect and record data on programs as directed.
- Complete curriculum‑based assessments in classroom or personal homes.
- Scan assessments into appropriate software as directed.
- Consult and collaborate with staff regarding student progress.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience working in EI/ECSE with children with special needs preferred.
- Experience (or comparable experience) as instructional assistant preferred.
- Willingness to learn and use Positive Behavior Intervention & Support (PBIS).
- At least 2 years of relevant experience preferred.
- High School/Trade School degree preferred.
- Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
